“Ah? Started already?”
“Okay, I’m Yamada Ryosuke. I’ll invite you to go back to my past.”
“Nakajima Yuto?” Yamada tilted his head, examining. “My rival? Ah no, he’s my senior despite his younger age. My always-shine senior.” (laughs)
“Well, I could say it right now but actually I never realized it until recently, that I always being his admirer.”
“Yeah!!” Yuto left the art class where the audition for school band was held. His face showed satisfaction.
Yamada sighed for he was failed to be the vocalist.
“Yamachan?” Yuto approached him. He frowned. “Alright?” He asked carefully.
“Alright?? Hellooo … do you really wanna know my feeling?” Yamada couldn’t hold his emotion.
“Please …” Yuto surprisingly stay calm.
“We always together! And I’ve always do my best but it always like this. I don’t understand why it was always you.” Yamada’s face became red as his blood flew up.
Yuto smiled. “Then why should you get angry?” He asked.
“What do you mean?” Yamada was offended.
“You have talent, you know it well; so why must you angry?”
Yamada stared at him; lost his word.
”So that was him, I realized that I shouldn’t complain and try my best.”
“Eh?? I sound so serious?” (laughs) “Sorry”
“He is my best friend, or should I say comrade?”
“We study and play together; I often had sleepover at his home.”
“We’re always being friend even when I started to like someone.” (blush)
“What are you doing?” Yuto surprised Yamada who was peeking someone.
“Shhhhh….” Yamada put his index finger in front of his mouth. Yuto automatically hide himself behind Yamada and followed his eyes direction. Chinen.
“AAAAHHH!!!”
“Shhhhh!!!!” Yamada glared at him dragged him behind the nearest wall. Chinen raised his head for hearing a scream but he found nothing.
“You like him???” Yuto asked in disbelief.
“Why?”Yamada feel irritated with Yuto’s intonation.
“Nothing, just you have to do your very very very best!” Yuto counseled.
Yamada feel challenged.
“Then my struggle began”
“Yuto, he helped me gather information about Chii …. He did it even though he knew that my chance to get Chii’s heart was almost zero percent.”
“No, I’m not exaggerating. Chinen already rejected so many people who asked him to go on date. They’re not common people of course. They were popular figure at our school or from another school. While me? The ordinary one, well not that ordinary because I’m the soccer captain.” (laughs)
“We stalked Chii together just to get his attention. Once we got caught by the school security because we skulked behind the bushes. They thought we were gonna bully Chii.”
“I also studied harder than usual so that I could get Chii’s attention since he was the smarter student. This is Yuto’s idea. He said if I could make a blow, I mean if my grade is increasing significantly, it would make Chii feel worry and at the same time he’ll notice my presence.”
“My sudden changed attitude caught everyone’s attention. Yamada Ryosuke became a diligent student (laughs). But it didn’t take effect on him. Chii never care about it and I never been able to get the higher grade than number ten.”
“But one day …”
“Yamachan!!” Yuto called me after sport class.
“What’s up?”
“Chinen!!” He said it between his racing breaths. “Fight”
“Where?” Yamada looks anxious.
“Field!” Yuto pointed at where he came earlier.
Yamada ran without thinking.
There, Chinen was being hit many times, attacked by some bad guys.
“STOP IT!!” Yamada shouted. They shifted their focus on the voice source, Yamada.
“Fu fu fu … there’s a hero here, huh?” One of them teased. They laughed.
“So you’re this brat’s friend?”
“Brat?? Don’t you understand what you’ve just said?” Yamada made a fake laugh.
“SHUT UP! You spoiled kid!” One of them attacked Yamada and the rest followed. Yamada could handle half of them. But if this continued … suddenly there’s someone stand right behind him. Yuto.
“I won’t let you become a foolish hero.” Yuto winked at him.
(laughs) “That’s it. We won. Chii acknowledge me. What a happy day.”
“Then, I went on date with Chinen.”
“Yuto? We still friend. But I rarely see him because I was busy with Chinen. I never asked him about his feeling or something. Yuto were always Yuto I used to know.”
“I was cruel.”
“One day, Chinen suddenly transferred to another school. Most probably overseas. He didn’t tell me, just a text message said that we’re no longer suited together. That what we’ve done together was just silly.”
“It hurt me, he broke my heart. I thought Chii loves me. In the middle of my terrible sadness …”
“Let’s watch a movie …” There’s an offered hand in front of him. Yuto smiled as Yamada raised his head.
“Yuto-kun …”
“C’mon!”
“He covered me with his warm smile, without asking what had happened to me as if he already knew just by looking at my eyes.”
“On the way to cinema he said …”
“Don’t blame anyone … I’m sure Chii loves you. I can tell from his eyes but every person has different condition. You have to be wise. You’ll meet someone better soon.” He smiled, sincerely.
“I can’t reply his words as my brain went blank.”
“Inside the cinema, well I couldn’t really focus on the movie but somehow my pain decreased.”
“I turned my head to the left, where Yuto was sitting. “You’ll meet someone better soon.” His words flashed in my head. Yuto laughed at the movie’s story but then he realized that I was staring at him.”
“Hmm? Something wrong?” He asked.
I shook my head. “Just, I think I’ve found someone better.”
“What do you mean?”He frowned.
“Nothing, all this time … I was stupid.” I smiled whether to myself or to the movie I wasn’t sure.
“Yuto smiled as well.”

“Yamachan?? What are you doing?” Yuto’s voice brought over his flashed back story.
“Recording??” Yuto felt curious.
“Come here!!” Yamada waved his hand, beckoned him to come.
Yuto stood beside Yamada. Yamada straightly looked at the camera.
“Then I want to thank him for coloring my life, and teaching me what’s the sincere of love.”
“What are you talking about??” Yuto became more confused.
“And lastly, for the person whom I give all of my heart to … HAPPY BIRTHDAY.” Yamada directly stare at Yuto’s eyes.
For the first time Yuto couldn’t give a reply. “Arigatouuuu” Yuto hugged him all of sudden.
Yamada felt all happiness under this embrace.
