The things I'm rubbish at noticing in my photos...

The good thing about my photography club is that you can get tips on how to improve a photo.

This, for example, is a photo I submitted in the last digital competition (and plan to resubmit to the next one, as you can enter the same image twice).

Oh dear, just shows how litle I know about fotography I thought the left one was the improved one :-(
After a closer inspection, yes I guess you can see more detail of the lions face on the right one. Great foto :-)

LOL.

Basically I got told that the top right corner and the lion's cheek were both too light/overexposed and it would draw your eye to those areas rather than the picture as a whole. So literally the only difference is that I darkened those areas. But it really does even the tones of the photo and my eyes at least aren't getting drawn to the cheek anymore.

But that's why their comments are useful, coz I went "oh yeah, that's true" when I got told that but hadn't really noticed before... although it probably helps that it's on a big projector screen and the lights are off that made it more noticeable too!

I honestly don't see much of a difference in the 2... the second is a bit more stronger in the color sheme, right? I think the original is fantastic and I think the same about the pimped version. It's great!

That's the thing, it's the little things that make the difference - although we view these on a projector, so they do end up quite large ;)

Is your eye getting drawn anywhere if you look at it for a while?

Edit: Just darkened the water near her cheek and the rock under her body and it looks even better - had to turn the lights off in order to check as that really shows how things look if you do it in the dark! lol

I guess that is very true and it is probably better than my screen *g*

I look first at the eye, yes but that is I think because the eye is right in the middle of the pic. If I look at it longer, I check out the nose and tongue more closely. And the spots on the fur.

*squints* I worry for my exhibition *lol* I love the shot because og the overall feel of it. I rarely look at details to be honest, I usually perceive the whole thing and the tone of it rather than details... which is probably just me *lol*

I think I have the habit of doing that too, so must try to train myself to look at photos in a slightly different eye in order to catch little things that might be wrong.

But I love your style of photography, it's great. Don't ever change that! I'm not sure I've developed my own unique style, but maybe one day!

Please please keep posting this information because yes, I would not have thought of that either. Brilliant photo btw.

The first one makes you look at the whole photo area, while the second one makes you zero in on the lion's face.

More depth to the photo too. Awesome - oh and I'm not far off with my camera - finally

I know, amazing what little tips like that can do for a photo. I've actually editted it further to darken a couple of other areas, which looks better IMO.

I'll post any other tips I get for my photos in future if you like then. Might help me remember the tips for my photos in general!

Emailed your yahoo address (Is yahoo your main email to use still?) with copies of all 3 edits full size so you can see.

The edit does draw your eye to her, whereas when I looked at the original, my eye was drawn to her ear...
Now I totally focus on her beautiful face.
