Cullen put on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for Stuart last night, because the weather was threatening to turn inclement (which never really panned out in our region, thankfully) and the house was too humid for either of us adults to muster much energy. Too funny. I had a philosophical moment with Elias the other day when we were talking about "truth" and he said... "What IS the truth?"

I think preschoolers' deadly-serious aphorisms are equal parts endearing ... and slightly creepy. Once, completely out of the blue, Stuart remarked, "People get old, and then they die. That's just what they do." How zen!

Stuart is really into "fantasy"-related stuff: magic, dragons, fairies, swords, wizards ... . You get the picture. He really likes that animated version of The Hobbit. He's going to be super popular in high school.

Stuart talks about death quite a lot, too -- but in an "exploring the concept" kind of way. He had two great-grandpas die in pretty close succession, so we'v talked a lot about that whole experience. He's actually pretty matter-of-fact about and accepting of the phenomenon. Only once did he ask what happens to people when they die. I was prepared to launch into this spiel to the effect of, "The people who loved them keep them in their memories. Even though they aren't alive anymore, their friends can think of all the fun times they had together and they won't feel so sad {blah, blah, blah]." But Stuart just cut me off with some random comment about a totally unrelated subject (probably dragons) ;-)

Stuart's favorite part of The Princess and the Frog is when "the mean guy gets eaten by the big, scary mouth." I mean, of course it is.
