Merry Christmas? Perhaps not for me this year....

After a wonderful Christmas Eve with my family, I was quite excited to spend a leisurely Christmas Day with them, then pack up and go to my Grandparent's house to hang out with the rest of my family and go Boxing Day shopping tomorrow ( Read more... )

Oh, you poor, poor thing. I hope the orthopod is able to help you get it sorted. IN the meantime, ice helps with swelling. Really it does.

As far as the throwing up with drugs goes, can you ask to try a different painkiller? When I bust my ankle, I was given Percocet (evil stuff!) and spent hours throwing up (including once in the trashcan in the doctor's waiting room, which served him right for prescribing it to me in the first place!) but when they switched it to Vicodin, no more puking.

I hope you get better soon.

I'm on a different painkiller now. They gave me morphine at the hospital to get the pain under control. I don't know what I'm taking now, but it's in the morphine family. This one doesn't make me sick, but I don't really feel like it's working, either.

Surprisingly, I'm not in much pain. My knee is very, very swollen and I'm taking ibuprofen to bring down the swelling and I'm icing it as well.

I'm really upset about the loss of my mobility and independence. My mom has to help me get dressed in the morning. At least I can still get to the bathroom on my own, but it's a lengthy process. I couldn't handle a whole life like this.

I'm really hoping that when the swelling goes down I'll be able to get around without the leg splint and can switch to a tensor bandage instead.

I haven't really figured out what is going to happen when I have to go back to work in the woods by myself. I haven't spoken with the Camp Director about it yet.

Thank you very much for your well-wishes. I really appreciate it.

Oh my God, Amanda. That's horrible! I can't believe that happened to you on Christmas Day for Christ's sake (after re-reading that, no pun intended....) You must be in so much pain, but leave it to you to know exactly what ripped as you were going down! I'm so sorry you can't go and see Allison, I know you were looking forward to it.

Wow. I'm thinking about you and your mother helping you get dressed. No wait. I mean that I hope your independence returns as soon as it can.

God - Kaelea loses her luggage en route to Spain, you fall and break something important, I get tickets to see Il Divo for the 2nd fucking time...this could very well be the worst Christmas ever!

I know I can't do much from where I am, but at least keep me posted so I know you're ok. Or, even better, send me an email when you're all high so we can laugh about it later.

You'd better get well soon, damnit!

(And yes, I'm Laura, the one who makes jokes when I don't know what else to say....)
