You know, frauds and opportunists succeed (our own dear Desmond is prime example) because they're good at spotting trends early. That certainly doesn't mean they're good people, or indeed worth following as people, or that means they propose are good. It just means they're canny about picking the right horse. (Desmond's sudden righteous indignation about his old friend Mugabe would make me nervous, if I was that old friend). I wouldn't trust Gore to speak my weight or believe that he believes his own rhetoric, much less wants to live to it. That doesn't mean that I don't think a fraud and opportunist might be right. And the bottom line is I'd prefer the US and the West to have the technological lead on the rest. The means I'd suggest would undoubtably differ from his. (be more inclined to carrot than stick, and would take on the problem at source, rather than end-user as far as stick goes.)

Agreed. I just have little patience for a guy who preaches one thing and so obviously doesn't follow his own advice. If he actually followed his own rhetoric, I'd be a lot more understanding.

Yes, we need to find other sources of energy. Yes, the private sector and public sector will have to work together to do so. Show lead by example for a change and prove that it can be done without a major negative impact on our way of life.

Sorry, I haven't had coffee yet so this is probably as rambling and unintelligible as possible.
