Columbus Day Redux

It's amazing how things have changed during my lifetime.  Back in the dark ages of my elementary school days, Columbus Day was recognized as a school holiday (later is was masked as a teacher word day).  The week or so leading up to the day had lessons which revolved around Columbus, his journeys and the initial exploration and settlement of North ( Read more... )

LOL!
My ancestors came in the later waves of conquest (1880's). Most of the good stuff was already done, natives put down, land seized, Britain kicked out. Boring!
On the other hand, my great grandparents fled Scotland(try "were kicked out") to make room for sheep. I guess that's pretty non PC.
I missed my chance to oppress some natives by only a few years(Hawaii takeover and subsequent statehood)damnit!
Always a bridesmaid, never a groom. Or something like that.
Happy Columbus Day, Happy seizure of the underutilyzed North American continent by the European Conquerors!

Considering my ancestors -- at least a good part of them -- were native to this country, if there was anything to be upset about, I would be. As for the rest of it, John, you always have looked good in fuscia and hot pink of the bridesmaid dresses. And think about how cute the drool is when it's pink [VBEG]
