I fell in l love today...

Ah, love. I fell in love today, yes, love at first sight. Perhaps more importantly, it's mutual. Not exactly the most exciting news, I know. Much more important things happening in the world, I know. But not to me. Today I fell in love. With a hat.

You see, Mom and Dad and me went to a garden centre this morning, and there it was, sitting there in the gift shop. Time both stopped and rushed forward - I snatched it off the display, shoved it on my head and rushed off to find a mirror. An old bloke walking past with his wife smiled at me and said "It suits you, very nice." And you know what? It does suit me. And it's not often I find a hat that really, genuinely, suits me (this one is only the second in my entire life, the first being a military-style khaki cap that I bought a month ago. And this is much better!!). It also fits. And it passed the wind test - it's reassuring to know that a head-on gale force wind cannot part us.

So passionate was my love for this hat that I didn't even look at the price. I declared that "I don't want to know how much it is, I'm buying it". My mom helpfully told me how much I was about to fork out before I got to the checkout, at which point I was very grateful that I had my debit card on me!! But it was love at first sight and I didn't care how much it would cost me. As it was it was £39.99. For a hat, yes - I know what you're thinking. But not just any hat. Wide, flat brimmed, brown, 100% Australian leather. Think Indiana Jones. Think Crocodile Dundee. Think Richie Sambora. And why does it suit me? Buggered if I know. I haven't ever looked at any of them and thought 'you know what? I bet that hat would look good on me'. Never ever, not once. Never would have thought it.

But it's true!
