That plane crash made me think: Why is there a wooded area, with a ravine, near a fucking runway?

Why is there a major Canadian highway right on the edge of the runways of a major Canadian airport? Did they -have- to be right next to eachother? The developpers couldn't have left a little space?

P.S. Did anyone check for those guys in orange shiny vests -under- the plane? Its cruel, I know, but I keep picturing a bunch of them trying to redirect the plane, and the plane just barreling down on them.......that's not funny.
