Twilight Bitching to Follow

I've discussed my dislike of the Twilight series with various people, but only recently have I actually written down some of my thoughts.  I think I could probably write a very long paper about why and where and how and what and who Stephanie Meyers fails with her writing, but I don't particularly care to do that anytime soon, if ever, because ( Read more... )

Full disclosure: I've watched the first two movies and intend to see the third movie at a matinee showing with my mother this week because all the actors are pretty. No joke. Especially Jacob. Pretty. And the story's fine and soapy in my opinion--nothing you couldn't catch around midday on any cable channel. And I do a lot of perhaps unintentional giggling at them. For example, almost any time Edward speaks. And always when Jacob appears unshirted. And I like the talkative friend, old what's-her-name.

I do not intend to read the books. ::shrug::

In and of itself I don't think the Twilight series is more harmful than anything else. But the Twilight fad/phenomenon I think gives too much authority to the books. Like, it's as if you took your favorite and most respected TV show...and swapped it for a silly soap opera. Yeah, you can enjoy the soap opera well enough, but it still doesn't hold a candle to your favorite TV drama's subtlety and artistry. And to think it does would be, to some (such as myself) pretty insane.
