I had a turkey sandwich - wasn't quite like last year, but oh well.

Tja, Thanksgiving fehlt Deutschland sehr. Aber dafuer habt ihr Fastnacht.

In other news: Tuvan throat-singing is frightening and wonderful.

I was the champion throat-singer last night - I got some sweet overtones. Well, audible at least.
Jake Yanni can still knock me off the stage in the throat-singing department. Didn't know you were a fan.

Either of you German-knowing-types: what's Fastnacht?

Jake tried to teach me, but I ended up just kind of standing on top of a mountain for about half an hour sounding constipated. It was fun anyhow though.

Fastnacht is a big ol' Carnival thing that happens right before lent. Basically what is comes down to is a huge party that lasts for weeks, at which everybody is in costume (sort of like Halloween, except better because it's pretty much everybody and for longer periods of time) and generally having a good time. It's good stuff. If you look at the wikipedia entry for "Carnival," there's a picture of one of the towns I lived in.

Fastnacht is basically getting drunk for most people.

Yeah, but it's still loads of fun.
