My natural mother died when I was 2 days old. My dad got married again when I was about 2. I remember her telling me at some point when I was a little older, "You might not have come from me, but I want you to know that I picked you. And that you are mine." I still think that is the most beautiful thing anyone has ever said to me. It's been a tough year for her, so we gave her a nice Mother's Day, and I think she enjoyed herself. :)

Awww, I'm glad you made your Mama happy on her day.

My stepmom is such a sweetie, I guess we were both either very lucky or fairytales aren't exactly the best place to be looking for examples of step parents.

I know I always make you feel mushy and maybe there's nothing to get sappy about because you don't remember any different, but you are one of the strongest people I know. You really are.

This was a strange Mother's Day for me, as you know, because of my grandma. But I also felt my own mother issues coming to the surface again, you know all of that stuff where I feel like she blatantly favors my sister. It makes it hard for me not to be at least partially resentful. I'm just so much more a daddy's girl.

This is a job I don't think I want, but I think the world of moms. There's a reason they say it's the hardest job in the world.

I think from now on you and me and Carrie and whoever wants to join should celebrate together and do our own thing that day so we can have our own weird little corner where we don't have to worry about not fitting in with the general festive atmoshphere. :)
