WIP meme-thing

Well, life is still insane, but it's calming down a bit, so I'm coming out of my pseudo-Internet-hiatus (which apparently included periodic political interludes) having missed a lot of stuff going on, and not really intending to go catch up on everyone's posts.

In an effort to kick-start my muse into actually working with me to accomplish some ficly stuff and rekindle my interest in writing, Stargate and Sam/Daniel, I've undertaken a review of some of my works in progress. dizzydame did something like this a while back, so I thought I'd try my hand at it. Maybe it'll get my muse in a playful mood. Under the cut you can find snippets from a selection of my works in progress. Not all of them, obviously. I mean, why bore others needlessly?

Untitled Sam/Daniel attempted response to a challenge from Eventhorizon7
(WIP for approx. 4 months)
Sam gave Cassie a sceptical look, and Cass returned with a pleading one. “Alright,” Sam said finally. “Come on in.”

Daniel appeared in the doorway. “What’s going on?”

“Base emergency. We’ve been recruited as chaperones for Cassie and Lucas.”

Daniel frowned. “Is everything alright?”

“Yeah, apparently it’s Janet’s turn to save the world.” Sam looked sharply at Lucas. “I mean...metaphorically.”

Cassie smiled weakly at her boyfriend who just frowned and said, “Oh-kay.”

Untitled gen-fic that’s supposed to be humour but is stubbornly insisting on becoming a cautionary tale
(WIP for approx. 9 months)
Daniel took several slow steps forward. “Hello. My name is Daniel Jackson.” He looked expectantly at the animals, but they didn’t respond. “Can you understand me?”

When Daniel took another step toward the creatures, one of them screeched loudly and scampered down the corridor. The second seemed hesitant, but after a moment, followed the first.

“Well,” said Colonel O’Neill. “That went well.”

“They’re probably just nervous.” Daniel looked down the hall where the animals had disappeared. “Not used to strange guests.”

“Yes, Daniel. That’s why you can’t talk to them. Because they’re shy.”

Dichotomy: Sam/Daniel, post Grace multi-chapter fic
(WIP for approx. 16 months)
With another sigh, Sam flicked a few cookie crumbs off her shirt. “I don’t know, Mark.” She hugged a pillow to her chest. “While I was...lost, a lot of things clicked into place.”

“Lemme guess. Things that’d been all mixed up but you’d never noticed.”

“Will you stop doing that?”

“Sorry, Sammy, but it’s your modus operandi. You always argue with yourself until you’ve made things so complicated they’re impossible to sort out.”

“I-” She dropped her head back in her sofa cocoon. “You’re probably right.”

There was a startled silence before her brother spoke again. “Wow,” he said with a soft laugh. “That musta been some bump on the head.” He paused, and when he spoke again, it was with concern. “You sure you’re okay?”

Untitled off-world multi-chapter adventure fic with a side of Sam/Daniel
(WIP for approx. 10 months)
With the last of the refugees following Teal’c to the shelter of the nearby caves, Sam turned back to the water.

The boat was nowhere to be seen. And neither was Daniel. Hundreds of small bubbles were bursting to the surface near the end of the dock.

Oh God.

Sam slid down the sandy embankment toward the river, shedding her tactic vest en route. At the dock’s edge, she tore at the laces on her boots. It seemed to take forever to free her feet. The second boot had barely hit the sand before she sprinted down the dock and dove off the edge into the frigid water.

Untitled Sam/Daniel off-world/on-world multi-chapter adventure
(WIP for approx. 7 months)
“Huh.”

Sam looked up to see Daniel frowning at the rune-covered cube on the bench. Silently, one side of the cube slid aside, revealing a faintly glowing orb within. She slid off her stool and moved closer. “It opens?”

“Apparently.”

Standing behind him, Sam leaned close over his shoulder. “Cool.” The thing must have some kind of energy source to be glowing like that.

“Sam.”

Shit. Sam straightened and backed off. “Sorry.”

“We talked about this.”

“I know.” Sam was definitely not thinking about the spice of Daniel’s cologne.

“It’s still a bad idea,” Daniel said, looking at her out of the corner of his eye. “Right?”

She also wasn’t thinking about the sharp curves of his bicep peeking out from under his t-shirt sleeve. “Yeah, it is.”

Untitled Sam/Daniel Earthbound multi-chapter adventure
(WIP for approx. 9 months)
A quiet groan came from behind him. On the balls of his feet, Daniel turned around. Sam was suspended from another hook a couple of feet away and regaining consciousness. She didn’t seem to be injured, but she was scarcely able to touch the floor with her tiptoes.

“Well,” she said, wincing up at her bonds and then around at the rest of the freezer. “This isn’t good.”

Nothing Evil: Sam/Daniel five or six part off-world fic
(WIP for approx. 11 months)
Sam glared into the darkness. “Who are you? Where are my friends?”

The attacker didn’t respond, though she could hear him getting up. Her hand settled on her sidearm, but without being able to see where her teammates might be, she decided it was too risky. She thumbed the domed clasp of her knife sheath and quietly slid the weapon out.

She realised she was wasting part of her concentration in keeping her eyes as wide open as possible. An almost automatic reaction to the absolute dark of the room. But it was pointless. She closed her eyes and listened.

There. The breathing again. To her left.

She tilted her head, trying to determine her attacker’s distance, her knife at the ready.

Take him out. Get him down. Find her team.

Pepperland: Sam/Daniel, a self-challenge fic, 'cause I'm a big freak
(WIP for approx 16 months)

Daniel gave Teal’c a nod and glanced at Sam. She was staring at the old man with the same frown she had given the flowered sign at the stargate.

“Ah, the village!” The man bounced up and down excitedly. “It is at the end of the long and winding road!”

“We’ll just be on our way then,” Jack said, gesturing to the rest of his team.

“Wait!” shouted the man. “Don’t pass me by! Do you not wish to hear the continuing story of Bungalow Bill? Or perhaps the tale of Lucy in the sky with diamonds?” He looked them over, his eyes lingering on their weapons. “Ah, you are warriors! You will be interested in Maxwell’s silver hammer, then.”

Taking Back the Sky: SG-1/Firefly crossover (post Ariel in Firefly 'verse)
(WIP for approx. 9 months)
Mal watched as the Doc checked the ship’s crew. If they was dead this would be the easiest salvage his crew’d ever done. Hopefully some of the stuff in the ship’d be worth sellin’.

“He’s alive,” said the Doc.

Jayne rolled his eyes, his shoulders slumping. “‘Course he is.”

Mal shook his head. Good thing they wasn’t hurtin’ too bad right now or the lost salvage rights might be a problem. Their latest heist had landed them a pretty penny. Who’d’ve guessed all that medical stuff’d be worth so much? Seemed the Alliance was always feelin’ the need to put prices on lives.

The Doc touched the big guy’s forehead. “He has some kind of tattoo here.”

“Is that gold?” asked Zoe, taking a step closer.

Jayne perked up at that. “There’s gold?”
