I ask these kinds of questions all the time and then forget them before I ever get a chance to look up the answers. So now I'm posting a few here before I forget them again. Maybe some of you have answers for me. I have plenty more ( Read more... )

Because there are many different forms of dwarfism, of course, and some forms only affect the bones in the arms and legs.

But that's backwards. If they only affected to bones in the arms and legs, then the arms and legs would be small and the torso would be tiny. I'm talking the other way around. Dwarf torso with regular sized arms/legs. I'm assuming there's a torso-only type of dwarfism, then? I haven't had time to look up these answers yet. I also have many other questions that have no answers. Like, for example, how come certain professors in my department can kiss students and grab their asses and never see a sexual harassment suit come their way while others, if they did the same thing, would get slapped with a dozen their first night out. Alas, I fear there is no answer to this one.

But see...here's the problem I've always had with the whole "because it looks like you're smiling" theory. It *doesn't* look like you're smiling when you say "cheese." It doesn't even look Mona Lisa-ish. In fact, if, in casual conversation, I saw someone say "cheese" in such a way that resulted in a full-blown smile, such as photographers generally desire, I'd think the person was an absolute freak. I told Jay I was going to start saying "cheese" like that, just to see what people would think. I'm guessing they'd think, "That chick's an absolute freak," too, but I may be off on that prediction.

Professional grammarians proofread the dictionary and when they miss a typo they get canned.
