Fandom: BBC's Merlin

I was attacked by a plot bunny and had to post right away. Unbeta'd, hopefully the language and spelling isn't too bad.
My first fan fic post ever.

The whole thing was over in a minute, but it felt like forever and it would last forever. During that minute, the whole world changed, all he knew and all he had built his world upon crumbled to dust and blew away. Yet he did not fall. There was something else that had grown around him without him realizing it. The thing he had not been able to put his finger on materialized around him and carried him, lifted him. Golden eyes blazed and brought the two of them in the eye of a raging storm, it's force effortlessly guided up and down in strength and width by the subtle, controlled movement from the arm of a simple servant. Surrounded by a wall of dust and debris and giant flying -formerly creeping and rapidly approaching- serkets, everything suddenly seemed clear and he finally really sees the man standing by his side. The echo of his words suddenly pierce his heart as he for the first time understand what they mean. “Don't do this, Arthur.” “This is a bad idea, Arthur” and, worst of all, the pleading

“please”

The moment is over, the arm lowers and the wind dies, a pair of blue eyes find his and Arthur knows the young man would not defend himself if Arthur decided to cut him down where he stood.

Arthur squints a bit, but does not look away. “I need you to conjure a sort of.. round floating ball of light.”
“Um... If you say so...” Merlin looks away and says a few words which to Arthur sounds like gibberish. Merlin's eyes glow golden again, and the guiding light he had used many times before appears in his hand. A perfect floating sphere of cool blue light.

Arthur's eyes soften at the sight and the ground beneath his feet have never felt this firm and secure. Arthur puts away his sword and adjust his armour, brushing away some invisible dust.
“So, Merlin. You were saying earlier that the road around the woods might be safer?”
Merlin studies him cautiously. “Yes, I believe so.”
“Right, we'll go back and follow that trail instead. And hurry up, we need to get moving if we plan to get home before night fall. And put out that thing, it is illegal you know.”

A bright and relieved smile spreads on Merlin's face as Arthur turns around and starts moving towards where they came from.

“We should come back here to hunt.”
“Um... no, we should not.”
“We should. I am sure there are plenty of fine prey in these woods. You could use that light thing of yours to flush them out.”
“That would be cheating. And you would have to change a law or two first.”
“Oh where's your sense of adventure, Merlin? You are such a girl's petticoat.”
“Clotpole.”
“Idiot.”
“Prat.”

And all was as it should be, at least for now.
