In which Kidd and Camus finally confront each other regarding Nanami.

Kidd: *walks into the infirmary actually looking to drop off another set of books for Kyle to read with no intentions of visiting anyone*

Camus: *Penning a note in his new journal, he notices Kidd and decides to call out to him* Ah, the young detective. Do you bring word of the castle, young sir?

Kidd: *recognizes Camus's voice and twitches, turning around after dropping the books* It depends what kind of "news" you're looking for.

Camus: *ignores the twitch, smiling slightly* News of the inhabitants. How is everyone fairing after the attack? I have not left the infirmary in many days.

Kidd: Whoever you see here seems to be the remaining casualties--most people have been discharged or are getting discharged soon. Morale seems to be high, especially with the holiday. *grumbles*

Camus: *tries not to smile more* I see, thank you for the information....however, you do not seem to be enjoying the festivities, and it is such a lovely day, too. *looks out the window momentarily, sighing*

Kidd: ... *glowers* I might be a little more festive if I didn't make such a fool of myself.

Camus: *Curious* A fool on the day of love? I thought that was tradition for young men. *smiles slightly* What has happened to make you so offended by the day?

Kidd: *resisting the urge to pull off his hat and trample all over it in fury* .... Let's just say someone stole my Valentine.

Camus: I am sorry to hear that. *Has a hunch...* She must be quite someone to have two men fighting over her.

Kidd: Yeah, well, I say if someone asks her FIRST, it's not fair to go wooing her away!!! *takes off his hat and shakes it in his hand while he talks*

Camus: Her choice does not matter in such a situation, then? Or does the second man not know of the first, perhaps.

Kidd: What if the first would do anything for her and feels like the second just wants to steal her out from under his nose?!

Camus: *Smiles, his hunch starting to become more than just a hunch* Then perhaps the first should speak with the second, as maybe the second's intentions have been misrepresented to the first.

Kidd: It seems pretty clear to the first, with all his deductive reasoning, that the second is using all his extra charm on the girl--meaning he's definitely interested!

Camus: Are you familiar with the different types of love, young detective? *switches subjects for a moment here*

Kidd: *falters, definitely caught off guard, and allows him to lower his pride for a moment* I have to say I'm a complete novice.

Camus: *Gestures for Kidd to sit while they talk and he makes himself more comfortable against his pillows* There are many kinds, not just the romance that we all hear of. You care for your parents, correct?

Kidd: *sits on a chair near Camus's infirmary bed* Well, obviously! I mean, my mum is my family. *takes out a notebook curiously--either way, he'll either learn something about love, or have a new note for Camus's profile*

Camus: *Looks at the notebook, amused, but does not say anything of it* What of your young friend, the spear-weilder? *Meaning Eugene*

Kidd: *makes a face--he's no stranger to the jokes people crack about him and Eugene* He's my best friend!

Camus: *smiles slightly* I will take that as a yes, then. And then what of La-, ah, your young woman?

Kidd: *flushes and makes a stubborn face, suddenly busying himself writing notes*

Camus: ...I will also take that as a yes. *smirks* Now, detective, detect your own feelings. Would you say that all those thoughts of love and caring are the same between the three?

Kidd: *wonders if Camus is insinuating something along the lines of what Toma was saying about his mum* >_> Well, you care about every person in a different way because no two people are the same, just like no two mysteries are the same, so you can't solve them all using the same tactics.

Camus: *Nods, closing his own journal* Yes. So, while it is possible to feel love for your mother, it is different than what you would feel for your young woman, or your friend. Everyone is unique, and so, therefore, are their feelings and those of others. Is it not possible that this other man you speak of cares for your beloved as a friend, a companion, or protector? *he gives just a bit extra emphasis on the last word, looking pointedly at Kidd*

Kidd: ... Then instead of giving me a long-winded lesson, I think that second person needs to come out and say exactly what he thinks, because his actions are mysteriously speaking otherwise. *frowns, but with less malice*

Camus: *laughs* Well spoken, young detective. Then I shall also be blunt and say that you have nothing to fear from my attentions to the Lady Nanami. *he pauses, trying to think of how best to put this* My affections for her are those of a knight to a lady...and she deserves someone who will see past that. *And her own age, but he doesn't add that*

Kidd: *looks up from his notepad*... Are you serious...? I mean... *flustered frown* She's always all... Errghhhhhhhhh.... over you!!

Camus: *Smiles slightly, but it is a touch sad* She is truly an extrodinary young woman, I have seen her knightly soul shine during some rather trying times. *he thinks of Gorudo and frowns* I have the greatest respect for her, and I would serve her without hesitation...but I do truly believe that she is meant for someone else.

Kidd: ... I feel like, I dunno. *bites his lip a little and looks back down at his notes* I'm not suppose to bother? You guys aren't even from the same time as me, so I shouldn't even know you two. I'm doing the kind of thing a bad guy does, meddling like this!

Camus: *Faintly smiles* Your doubts and ability to love show that you are not a 'bad guy'. Caring for another can never be thought of as evil, detective. I am sure if you asked Lady Nanami, she would agree. Her love and open heart drove an army, once.

Kidd: *puffs out proudly upon hearing that, but is proud for Nanami, not himself* Yeah, well, she's THAT great! But... I mean... it's kind of... it doesn't make my feel too great about myself when I work up the courage to ask something and then have you wow her away. >:

Camus: *surprised* 'Wow her away'? *Does not remember this!*

Kidd: *points an "Objection!" finger* Don't act all innocent when you're guilty! Every time you're even MENTIONED in a sentence, she gets all googly-eyed!

Camus: *He can just hear Miklotov's voice admonishing him for his flirting ways...;;;; * Mentioned in a sentence? That is all? I made no overtures....

Kidd: Any time your name is even dropped, so you can just imagine what it's like when you're there. *scowls*

Camus: *Mildly* A good thing I was in the infirmary, then.

Kidd: *scowls some more*

Camus: *laughs at the look on Kidd's face* Come now, young detective, have you at least spoken with Lady Nanami and made you intentions clear? You must sometimes fight for love, it is not as simple a quick answer.

Kidd: I-I try! But if I've already lost to you in her mind, then what's the point? In a murder mystery, no matter how much evidence you have against the killer, it's not going to bring the corpse back.

Camus: Hmmm....true, but I do not think your hopes are so dead as that. I believe Lady Nanami herself would be surprised to find what she thinks she wants, as opposed to what she truly does. Do not give up hope.

Kidd: *sulks a little and puts his hat back on* I might not be a flashy knight like you, I may only make a little bit of money, and I may be a little less muscular than most guys, but I don't give up.

Camus: *Flashy?* A lady's heart is not won in a day, perseverance is an admirable trait.

Kidd: *sighs and stands up* I can't even make myself hate you because you still, after everything, back me up.

Camus: I am only looking out for Lady Nanami...even if she is not aware of it. *He pointedly looks up at the young man* I would like her to remain unaware of it, still, Sir Kidd. I do not wish to meddle in her affairs any more than I already have.

Kidd: Are you asking something of me? *confused look*

Camus: *Sits up straight, ignoring the twinge in his side* I would appreciate it if you kept the details of this conversation between the two of us. I do not want her to think I am trying to interfere in her love life. *frowns, not able to convey that he just doesn't want to get in the way of Kidd and Nanami. He wants Nanami to be happy*

Kidd: *slowly turns red like a rising thermometer* L-l-love life?! But Nanami... and... x___x

Camus: *laughs* A step at a time, young man.

Kidd: *points with his hat in his hand* Just... just don't go giving her the wrong idea, okay?!

Camus: *Holds his hands up in surrender, still laughing at Kidd's adamant gesture, until the pain in his side makes him stop and wrap an arm around his middle, grimacing* She has the heart of the purest valor, detective, that deserves the utmost respect and care. And as a knight, I feel that a lady's heart must be protected, especially from suitors who do not treat her in the way she deserves....*He raises his eyes to Kidd, and even half dressed and sitting bandaged in bed, he suddenly looks the formidable knight* ...Am I right, young Sir Kidd?

Kidd: You can bet that if any other guys move in and try to start to act shifty I'm digging up all the dirt on them I can!! XO

Camus: ........ *Leans back into his pillows, laughing softly at Kidd missing his threat* Then I wish you luck, detective.

Kidd: After yesterday, I'm going to need all the luck I can get. I made a huge fool of myself. ;;

Camus: It may not be as bad as you think, speak with her somewhere quiet and away from people. The lack of a crowd can help loosen the tongue.

Kidd: I thought asking her to be my valentine out loud would be brave to do, but it seemed to get all sorts of attention from everyone else.

Camus: *Smirks* There are some rather...curious people here. I assume her response was not in the affirmative, then?

Kidd: ... *lamely* She didn't give me an answer. *omg loser*

Camus: *surprised* She did not give you an answer? *shakes his head* You should speak with her, bring her flowers, and ask her again. Show her your serious intent.

Kidd: Flowers? ;; I don't want to make a fool of myself again. Once in public is enough for me, but getting shot down again is too much...
sending him out, only to spy on them and cheer Kidd on from the bushes XD)

Camus: Perhaps do not approach her in public, this time?

Kidd: Yeah, yeah. ;; *clearly thinking*

Camus: Be honest with her, even if nothing comes of it, never be ashamed for having tender feelings. A knight without love and valor has nothing to protect, nothing to fight for.

Kidd: *nodding more to himself* I'll... think about the flowers. But thanks... and sorry for being so hostile... I can see why Nanami likes you.

Camus: *Surprised once more, and rather flattered* There are no apologies needed, young detective. Treat Lady Nanami as she deserves and I will rest easy. *Smiles* Thank you for speaking with me. I wish you luck.

Kidd: *suddenly feels like a little kid and nods, then scrambles out of the infirmary--whether it's to find flowers or not is unsure*
