Sullivans?

Didn't they go out of business?

Do you recognize the brand, Mr Blue?

[ooc: there are very few resources talking about the brand so I wouldn't expect Blue to know much about them either. Even in canon they're not very well-known or popular.]

I'm trying to think, and I don't...think I've ever heard of them.

There are a lot of different brands now, though.

I suppose that would be too much to hope for. I could settle for any brand with a good Turkish tobacco in the meantime.

The 'little buttons with letters and numbers on them' are of immensely more practical use than you, sir, apparently realise.

There is a tobacconist's in Misery Square. You might inquire there after Sullivan's cigarettes. I, for one, do not recall seeing such among his wares.

It is certainly much slower than writing and if one can speak just as easily, why bother?

I shall hope to find you wrong then, my good sir. If if is not possible to order some I will have to make do with some other brand.

The virtues of writing are manifold, even if it is the typist's drudge. You may yet find yourself making use of those 'little buttons'.

Make no presumptions until you have spoken with him. You're jumping to conclusions already. Luck may yet be with you.

I may, but that remains to be seen.

Making assumptions is most certainly a foolhardy exercise, and I am only speculating.

Are you saying my waist needs to be artificially trimmed?

A.J. Raffles, do not make me come over there and model skirts that I think work just fine with the waist that exercise gave me.

You present me with a dilemma: I can say no and preserve your pride and our acquaintance, or I can say yes and observe this waistline for myself.

Or you can say yes, and offer to take me out for dinner if I'm going to get all dressed up for you, and you're good all around.

How forward of you, Miss Kara, but there is nothing wrong with that. Perhaps you would like to dine with me tomorrow evening or whichever evening you would prefer.

1893? That's only [short pause as she does the math] seventeen years ahead of me! That's so exciting! I haven't met many people from anywhere near my time period.

And how old does that make you, young lady?

I'm twelve years old! Unless you mean in your time. Then I'd be twenty-nine. I wonder what I'll be like when I'm twenty-nine... I've never really imagined myself that old.

You were correct the first time, though it is interesting to wonder, isn't it? Do you have family or friends here with you?

A little thing called feminism happened, Raffles.

Feminism? I am aware of the term. Women's suffrage and so on. What do you mean by "happened"?

The trouser thing?

Well, given the popularity here I can only assume for some people it is in the norm.
