1) Was 2008 a good year for you?
One thankfully brief period was very low, but the rest of my year was excellent.
2) What was your favorite moment of the year? (somewhat in order)
- swimming in the Mediterranean in Positano: this is possibly the favorite moment of my whole life
- driving up Highway One with Max and Alexa: also one of the top 10 moments of my life
- early morning bagels before Santa Cruz woke up
- seeing the Arc de Triomph from the taxi my first day in Paris
- the barbecue at Gabby's house by the sea
- eating a sandwich on the Embarcadero at the Ferry Building Farmer's Market
- realizing before anybody else in the room that Obama had just won
- bicycling around Giverny
- sitting on the swing behind Notre Dame as the church bells tolled
- reading Gatsby in a circle of friends underneath a broken chandelier in the Haight
- camping out at Danielle and Zack's for a week, finding somewhere to live
- the day we all met up at Perg's and then painted things and watched The Babysitter's Club
- pub quiz and fish and chips in London
- the first strawberry tart in Paris
- seeing the Pope from the first row
- wandering around the Impressionists floor of the d'Orsay
- spending a week hanging out with Matt & co. in Rome
- setting up the Christmas tree
- Golden Girls nights and toast with my sister all summer long
- when Edna brought home Con Air and we had a viewing party
- saying hello on my front porch
- calling my grandmother from Golden Gate park to talk about life and commune with the turtles
- celebrating my birthday underneath the Eiffel Tower at midnight with pink champagne
- making sugar cookies at three in the morning then eating them while I read a book and listened to the rain
- stumbling around the Latin Quarter with friends singing the Beach Boys late at night
- my dad's face at the airport when we said goodbye, and six months later when we said hello
3) What was your least favorite moment of the year?
- saying goodbye to California
- the horrible week when my wisdom teeth came in
- going to the emergency room
- desperate, aching loneliness on another continent
- constant financial anxiety
- losing my mind on New Year's
- getting lost in Florence
- hearing the worries about next quarter
- too much ale in London
- every time I woke up after the sun had already gone down
4) Where were you when 2008 began?
a party in Santa Clara, losing my goddamn mind because I hadn't slept for four days

Liza, SCU kids, half the cast of Law and Order (in my head)

Haha probably the same place 2007 ended: in Santa Clara with Liza.

8) Did you keep your new years resolution of 2008?
Resolutions of 2008:
- get in shape: not a chance
- get straight A's: no, but I came super close one quarter
- I don't remember any other resolutions

- lose weight
- make it to Portland
- calm down
- be more financially responsible
- be proactive about my health

No, but it was a pretty lovely year nonetheless.

2008 was many things but it was absolutely the least boring year of my life.

Yes.

Yes! Galina (I don't think I met you until winter quarter), Phamers, Dean, Heather, Marie, Hillary, Nell, Jill, I can't remember who else I met this year.

May and December.

Actually not that many. How did that happen? Oh god I saw that terrible Girl Talk/Bone Thugs in Harmony concert, probably the worst of my life. I honestly can't even remember who else I saw in 2008.

Uh.

Vicodin for my wisdom teeth, trazadone for my insomnia, tremendous amounts of Claritin and that's about it.

31) Did you lose anything important this year?
One of my black suede pumps from France weeps forever, my sanity for about half an hour, my appetite for a week, my lunch once or twice, everything I loved for a little while but it was all waiting for me when I got back.

Oh my god.

To be totally honest: my winter quarter GPA.

Noooooo there were way too many.
39) If you could go back in time to any moment of 2008 and change something, what would it be?
Half of me wants to say not going on study abroad because it's costing so dearly, but I know it was worth it and that will sink in after this financial shakiness subsides.

Start a raised bed garden. Buy a bicycle. Get My Goddamn Driver's License. My wishes are always the same: Be happy, be useful, be kind, be loved.
