No pizza for you...

Estou deprê, muito deprê... Acabei de vir do ambulatório aqui do trabalho onde a médica me passou os exames do periódico. Estou com o dobro do permitido de triglicerídeos e com colesterol acima do recomendado. That seems like such strange advice. Here if someone has high cholesterol one of the first things they're told to cut are meats and dairy, not beans and bread. Mike has a cholesterol problem and we eat mostly vegetarian meals, along with some grilled chicken or fish. Of course, some people are prone to cholesterol problems even if they eat less than the daily allowance of cholesterol, but I can't see how including meat but taking out rice and beans should improve things.

According to the doc, I have to cut "white" bread and give preference to brown bread and also eat grilled chicken and fish and a lot of vegetables. She said that beans turn into sugar in the metabolic process, so I should avoid them.

Well, I replaced the usual bread I used to eat in the morning by a mix of fiber with yogurt. And I've been eating more vegetables. It's hard to change habits, but I'm trying ;-).

Ah, I see, it sounds like you're also verging on diabetes. That is an awful combination to be hit with. Luckily there are a lot of artificial sweeteners these days (stevia is a good one) that can help alleviate some of the blandness. That's a very dramatic change to go through though, good luck!

She said I don't have diabetes, but that I should avoid sugar as well. Well, hopefully I will get used to this diet.

Ummmm...Hay caramba?

Oh, wait. You speak Portuguese. I recognize "obrigada" because I know "obrigado" means "thank you." (I have a Brazilian member in my BTVS-ATS IncrediMail Yahoo Group, and I sometimes try to speak to her in Portuguese.)

So, anyway... Que? :-)

Oh, I said I talked to the doctor at my work after a blood test and she said even if my weight is okay, I have some "bad" cholesterol and a great amount of triglycerides. So she said I should change my eating habit by reducing sugars and grains (like beans and rice), white bread, high fat foods and so on. Also, she said I should eat more green leafy vegetables.

It's not easy to change habits, but I'm trying. I started last Saturday cutting the bread from my breakfast and replacing by fiber and yogurt.

I also will go back to the gym. I stopped after the wedding. Well, let's see if I can keep the diet.

*sighs*

Hoje comi no refeitório basicamente salada.

Quero voltar a comer pizza, buaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
