Ran in a race

Yesterday there was some wierd sports day things (the DHL relay) where 5000 teams of 5 people run 25km each (5km per person). I was third on one of the math department teams. It was actually a lot of fun! Surprisingly, the fact I have one and a half lungs (because of the terrorist ym"sh) wasn't as much of a problem as I thought it would be- I was ( Read more... )

Was it strange to have the sun rising behind you? I don't know where you're from originally but having lived in America my whole life I'm pretty used to facing east, and I find that the most rewarding thing about davening vasikin (aside from fulfilling the mitzvah to its fullest extent as well as doing what Rebbe Nachman ZTzL recommended) is facing the rising sun, as if Hashem is answering my prayers by lifting the sun up to meet me.

Unfortunately no... the Daimonji is to the East of Kyoto, so I would not actually see the sun for Vatikin. Still, it was amazing. Very worthwhile spiritually and physically. Even though now I get to pray shachris in a minyan each morning, I often miss heading up the mountain alone at 4:30AM to say good morning to our creator.

Yes... I thought I was in much worse condition than eventually I proved myself to be in- I was pleasantly surprised by my performance!

Check out my new icons too!
This one is from a walk my wife and I took on the yamanobenomichi, the "oldest road in Japan" which isn't literally true but it's almost true. In front of the burial mound of one of the Heian era kings who ruled from Nara (previously the capital had been Asuka which is on the other end of the road).
