Oleg Viro Birthday conference in SwedenThis would be unremarkable except for what proceeded it. Oleg Viro was forced out of Uppsala University by a dean who wanted to kill non-applied mathematics. He was forced out through threats of false accusation of crimes. Very Israeli government like, no? I hear the KGB used the same method. Anyway, ( Read more... )

Sure. As long as they give their names and addresses and stop behaving like spoiled brats, the birthday party can begin. But you can't very well have a birthday party without identification now can you?

No... that's justifying a human rights violation. I would lose all respect for them for collapsing like that. Birthday conferense without names... in fancy dress and with masks! With all the major players in politics in attendence ( ... )

Also, Jewish girls are kodesh, not brats.

to get an idea at the level of human being you are calling a brat. I wish I had 1/10th of the bitachon in Hashem that these girls have... it's a wake-up call for all of us to work on ourselves.

... which implies that the Swedish Mathematical Society is supprting Prof. Viro versus Anders Hallberg (the Dean), which is quite impressive actually, because Uppsala also has a math department. This must have been highly non-trivial... Prof. Viro had strong disagreements with powerful people concerning whether "applied mathematics" should be prefered to "pure mathematics" across the board, and I would expect that the "applied mathematicians" can't be too happy that the Swedish Mathematical Society is taking Prof. Viro's side... on the other hand, this might be Stockholm University showing up that it is better than Uppsala...
