Help?

Okay, so I know Yanagi_wa, at the very least, knows her way around guns, and I'm hoping a few of the rest of you do, too.  Surprisingly enough, I have spent a great deal of time around the weapons, but know very little about them.  For several reasons, to tell the honest truth, but mostly because I think they smell (I hate gunpowder of all kinds, ( Read more... )

It sort of depends on how old he is when they start him shooting. I know that the first gun I ever shot was when I was 12 and it was my Dad's shotgun. But, he also taught me how to load his muzzle loader, so that I would have lots of respect for the gun.
As for a hand gun, they kid is going to have small hands. The most practical type of gun would be a lady's gun. Depending on if it is an automatic (with a clip) or a revolver (with a barrel), is what will also determine how big it is. just fyi, in Texas, to have a concealed handgun license that allows you to carry an automatic, you must test with an automatic. If you test with a revolver, that is the only type of gun you can carry concealed.
If you get a chance, look up .38 revolvers and automatics. Try a search for .38 lady's guns. Also, they would probably take the kid to a shooting range. There are rule and regulations, and safety equipment is required. This includes ear protection and eye protection. Do a search on gun ranges and gun clubs. That'll give you more info. Hope this

I'd start Harry out with .22's. Both pistol and long gun. Specific instructions on stripping down a weapon depend on what you're working with but ... remove magazine, clear chamber, remove slide, then trigger assembly. Watch for OS clips, wipe and relube all parts. Never remove a barrel unless you're replacing it. Run swab down barrel, oil barrel. Reassemble. If you need more than that PM me and I'll try to help more. *hugs*

I'm really loveing the story. Great work.

I can't offer more of the gun front but if you need information about ammunition or cleaning supplies, I'm your person. I'm well versed in these subjects due to my job.

I agree with Yanagi_wa though. A .22 would be a good gun to start with, It was my first gun. :)

I agree that .22 calibre is a fairly safe bet for a non-BB/air pellet gun. I've only shot .22 calibre rifles, which *do* have a certain amount of kick-back on them, but it is the sort of thing one can learn to handle - although I'm not so sure about a child younger then 10-12 or so ( ... )

Ghost_whisper and yanagi_wa pretty much covered eveything that I can think of to tell you. Just that the way ghost_whisper described holding a pistol is called a teacup grip. Also, a derringer is a small gun that Harry could probably handle.
