I'm going to have some words with the woman who runs the intercambio system here, because apparently the bullshit that I've been dealing with regarding the whole intercambio thing is not uncommon. The CIEE people talked up this program a whole lot, and they really really shouldn't have. Apparently, they keep the exchange list for years. I know this

Mmm, I wish I could visit Spain sometime. You know, I've always wondered if popular culture has worked so hard at building up the myth of the "hot Spanish/Latin lover" stereotype that Spanish and Latino males feel almost an obligation, or pressured, to act accordingly, just to live up to female expectations, or something.

Yeah, you should. Andalucia is the name of the game. Granada is super hot. Sevilla too, but I went to Granada last weekend, and uh, most of us who went were like, "Fuck.. should have gone to Granada." It's cheaper and more gypsy and hippie-oriented, and also it has mountains with thousands of caves in them. That hippies live in. But there's crazy hills; not recommended for those with heart problems or special needs of any kind. Sevilla is more like... mainstream-hip and expensive. There's more art here. And drinking in the street is a lot more accepted, though people smoke a lot more weed in Granada. I guess as a metaphor, Sevilla is a martini and Granada is a spliff
