Jaded Reality Revisited...

Sep 01, 2004 01:41

Naivety and ignorance are bliss in this world today and they lead to corruption and moral destruction. People these days are such fools. If they would only just open their eyes to what they are becoming/have become, they might be able to change for the better and stop degrading the quality of life on this God forsaken moral wasteland of a planet. Yeah that's my outlook on this world, but what do I know? I mean its not like you can sit back a moment and observe everything that goes on around you. No, that would be the obvious way of seeing what the world is like.

People are like sheep, blindly being herded down a path of lechery and greed and I am growing sick of it. No matter how much I try to help, I will constantly run into people repeating the same damned mistakes over and over and over again. Can they not see what they have done? Are people quintessentially blind? Are we so wrapped up in our pursuits of money and sex that we close our eyes to the blatantly obvious truths in this world? Do people willingly lock away their conscience because it reminds them too much of a time of childhood innocence? Growing up, maturing, leaving behind your childhood...those are interesting concepts. Do people force away their childhood because it was a time where they could be tricked by the evils of this world? Do they shut it out because it seems to be a time of weakness when society could mold you into anything from a kind soul to a malicious, maniacal demon? Do people realize that if they were to look through the eyes of their inner child that they would see, the very thing their adult conscious tried to prevent? Do people realize how corrupt and utterly disgusting they have become?

In this world there is a group of people who act on only good will, no selfish motives behind their actions; actions that are committed to benefit everyone, even the most withdrawn, unfriendly stranger. Heroes, is what they are called; people who, at times, will forsake themselves to put a smile on someones face when they need it most. People who exhibit true courage through a strong moral base; true inspirations, role models if you will. With all of that said, let me pose one final question: why do people, knowing all of what was stated one sentence prior to this, willingly cause pain and suffering, especially for those who put themselves out in the open to try and help everyone? Thinking about that question leads me to one conclusion: we live in a world that crushes heroes and embraces villains. I mean how often is it that you hear about the heroes in our world? All of the men, women and children who put themselves on the line to come through for others. Events that would thrive off of positive emotions. No, its not very often, not often at all. Instead, what do we all hear about? What kind of news are we fed by the media in this day and age? War-Anger, Terrorism-Fear, Destruction-Depression, Death-Hatred...need I say more? The emotions I have just listed which plague our headlines are seen so obviously in stories such as this one:

The video showed five men wearing headscarves and black ski masks, standing over a bound man in an orange jumpsuit similar to a prisoner’s uniform who identified himself as Nick Berg, a U.S. contractor whose body was found on a highway overpass in Baghdad on Saturday.

“My name is Nick Berg, my father’s name is Michael, my mother’s name is Susan,” the man said on the video. “I have a brother and sister, David and Sarah. I live in … Philadelphia.”

After reading a statement, the men were seen pulling the man to his side and putting a large knife to his neck. A scream sounded as the men cut his head off, shouting “Allahu Akbar!” “God is great.” They then held the head out before the camera.

The day that the news is overrun by stories of good will and true acts of heroism is the day that I will be able to die happy; for then I will be proud to be a part of this monotonous taxonomy known as Humankind. If you really sit down and think about it, how different are the different races on this planet? All races are composed of many people who forsake their pure dreams in the pursuit of money. All races are composed of people who sell out their morality and dignity in exchange for sex. All races are composed of filthy, corrupt people. So I say, why are there so many problems between people in this world, they are all the same! Brutalities, such as the Nick Berg incident, are not limited to just the Middle Easterners, how about the immoral treatment of African Americans way back when they were enslaved? I realize that I could go on with this statement of social defiance forever, dissecting every little "evil" entity on this planet but I will rest my argument with a sum of what I feel using the great and wise words of Louis Armstrong:
"Some of you young folks been sayin' to me, "Hey pops, what d'ya' mean what a wonderful world? How 'bout all them wars all over the place, you call them wonderful? And how 'bout hunger and pollution, they ain't so wonderful either." But how 'bout listenin' to old pops for a minute; seems to me, it ain't the world that's so bad but what we're doing to it and all I'm sayin' is see what a wonderful world it would be if only we would give it a chance. Love baby, love; that's the secret...yeah...if lots more of us loved each other, we would solve lots more problems and then this world would be a dessert...that's what old pops keeps sayin'."

Anywayz now that I got to write that out (compliments Jaded Reality quite nicely, if you don't know Jaded Reality, head over to the Birke's Works link up top), got my new phone (still a VX6000, just a replacement) today, transferred the phone book, then my dad and I got the USB cable for the phones, I transferred my pics off my old phone, then I went to Lauren's house where I ran into Nicolette and Connor in the basement. Kyle came shortly after, then Kim. Cool night, ended off with a nice long talk with Nicolette while waiting for my mom, then a nice chat with Kim online...Anywayz I have to get off and sleep, seeing Kim really early tomorrow to end my summer on a good note...
