Sunday Evening, A Random Street Corner

Inara had traded in her outfit of yesterday for one that was much more conventional, at least by her standards--a pair of low-rise jeans and a midriff-bearing sweater.

She'd done so well the night before, without even having to do actual work, that she'd decided to try her luck again.

He'd had to go for a walk after all that brooding, just to get away from his thoughts for a while. The ruined wedding had reminded Talyn of so many memories, and he just had to get away and-

End up looking down the street at someone who looked so much like-

"Rebecca?"

Who the hell was this Rebecca person? Still, going again with what had worked for her the day before...

She smiled sweetly at the man, who was very attractive. "Yes?"

Talyn ran to her, heart filling with hope at the sight of his lost love, and then he stopped short when he got close enough.

"I'm sorry," he said, heart deflating again. "I just... You... You look just like her."

"I could be her," Inara said, reaching out to lay her hand on his chest, "If you wanted me to be."

It just so happened that Miss Eliza Doolittle, formerly of Wimpole Street, London, was also seeking a street-corner that night, for what else was a girl to do when a man plucks her out of the gutter and ruins her, leaving her with a toffee-nosed accent and no money, and her flowr shop goes bankrupt due to the lack of an E, except resort to certain trades not legal in Texas?

When she saw Inara on the corner which she'd come to think of as 'hers,' Eliza's eyes narrowed. "Here, you, girl, you can't be working here. This is a respectable corner. I've got flowers and all." She pointed to her basket. Not that she actually sold the flowers; she just did things with them that was quickly gaining her a rather widespread clientele.

She couldn't resist asking. "What do you do with the flowers? And how much extra is it?"

"Wouldn't you like to know, Missy," Eliza sniffed at the first chit. To the second she rounded on her heel and said, "I'm not going any bloody where. Take off, you!"
