Dylan Thomas Reading his poetry aloud

May 08, 2012 03:20

Lately, I have been interested in the dramatic recital of poetry. In fact, I would like to make a monologue out of a poem, especially the second one I've shared. Both are by the Irish drunken bard, Dylan Thomas; the man who the great Bob Dylan took his surname from his original being Zimmerman. I think he has a such a powerful delivery.

I was thinking of him earlier because in acting class today, my teacher told me to embrace the language. I don't know why I sometimes approach the lines in scene differently than I do poetry. I am hoping that listening to these recitals, I will be inspired and empowered by them.

I think I shall make it a goal of mine to wake up in the morning and to recite a poem a loud. I think it will certainly help with my oratory skills.
