Oh yes I'm DEATHLY allergic to cats. They've sent me to the ER more than once. I'm allergic to dogs as well but it's not nearly as severe and won't really bother me unless I burry my face into them...which of course I do.
ugh! I get hives all over my face on my cheeks, jawline and on my eyelids. like right at the edge of the part that's touching my eye by the lashes. oh it's miserable. I feel your pain!
Sounds horrible. If you lived a bit closer, I'd be willing to adopt her (if my girls are willing too, of course, female rats can be bitches to newcomers).
I'm allergic to my rats, too, but it's bearable (it scratches and itches everywhere when I let them walk on me, and I sneeze even more than otherwise, but as i'm allergic to almost everything and sneeze and itch all the time anyway, it's not too terrible)
We have a lot of adoption programs running here in Belgium. Maybe if you surf the internet, you might find one where you live?
If you keep her, best to get her a friend asap. She'll need less attention from you then. IA rat without company is so sad. She also might misbehave less with a friend.
never fear! have you checked out Clartin? i take it for allergies and it works wonders. see if the doctor recommends that, but you can get it over the counter now. take it from someone that thought it was impossible to get allergy help!
and i agree with the above, check out the internet for rat adoption programs. there are lots of rat rescue places out there, i am sure you could find one lickity split!
i am sorry though, i know you were so excited, and you are a good ratmom. one way or another this will be fixed in a good way though, dont worry.
there is regular clartin and then one with a decongestant called clartin d. claritin? wtf, whatever. anyhow, there are different ones, i would recommend not taking the claritin d unless you have to because it really dries you out. but they work wonders, really. and you can even get a generic now, so its a bit cheaper. and if you have access to a costco, get them there, huge packs for WAY less money!
