It's Pretty Good Cold, Too

Apr 06, 2006 10:03

I have had a string of kitchen disasters lately, resulting in a melted spoon, a melted spatula, two separate batches of candy with plastic in them, and--inevitably--a burn on my knuckle. So it was nice that the chicken recipe I tossed together the other night came out great.

Really good baked chicken. )

burns, food

"The nice thing about cooking is that the quantities don't matter like they do in, say, baking or chemistry."

...I think that's what messes me up when I try cooking. It's not at all intuitive for me so when the directions aren't explicit enough I get into trouble. "A pinch? Like this big of a pinch or this big of a pinch? And you cook it for how long? Until it's brown? How much brown? I mean, there's this light brown and then there's this dark brown that's... catching on fire! Gyeeaaaahhh!!!"

(Okay, so technically I haven't caught the kitchen on fire. ...yet. Of course, I have managed to nearly ruin instant ramen a couple of times. That takes skillz! Or a serious lack thereof!)

I think there's some experience in there; after you see a few pies that are properly brown, you kind of know what to look for. Mostly, though, you can vary your pinch sizes wildly and still get something good.

I just cook 'til it looks delicious!

!!!

...or I get too hungry to wait any longer. Which is the same thing. Which is why I never let anyone else have any food that I cook- I want it all for myself, and I don't want to give them food poisoning.

This recipe sounds good! I'm always looking for something new to do with chicken (especially when I forget that I have some in the freezer and then I buy more!)
