The first set of stories.
Chocolate truffles: I found
these via
dduane, made them, and took them in to work. Wow. The response was amazing. They're as easy to make as the recipe suggests, with my notes below:
A real double-boiler isn't necessary; just jam a little pot into a big pot.
Use cheesecloth to strain, and be prepared to use your fingers.
Make-ahead: You can flavor the cream, refrigerate it overnight, and do the part with the chocolate the next day.
800g of chocolate = 3.5 8oz bars.
I am totally going to make these flavored with Constant Comment tea. I don't know, what would I roll it in? Sugar for sure, but cinnamon doesn't seem quite right.
New office: Approximately 47 years after the idea was first proposed, I have finally moved into a new office at work.
Me: It's a corner office.
My Mom: Oooh!
Me: They're all corner offices.
My Mom: Oh.
It's smaller, but I'm using the space a lot better than the other guy, so it's plenty roomy for me. Plus it gave me a chance to clean out my old office, in which an amazing quantity of junk had managed to accumulate over the past three years.
Speaking of cleaning out amazing junk....
Fridge broke: I went to take a drink of milk over the weekend and almost fell over when the smell hit me. Realizing that my sodas had been sort of warm for a few days, I brilliantly deduced that my fridge was broken and I'd have to get maintenance up to fix it.
That meant cleaning out the fridge.
Oh, lord. I've said this before: like a miner expects blacklung, and a parachutist expects to squish flat on the rocks, I am pretty sure that when my number comes up I'll die of fridge poisoning. Sometimes the mold grows mold. It's not a case of laziness so much as negligence: my fridge is in a corner and I can really only approach it from the side, and...out of sight, out of mind.
So anyway, it was disgusting, but I got that fridge interior to gleam. (And jammed all my edibles into a cooler and stuck it on the porch.) Maintenance came through, I restocked, and the fridge is still gleaming. I sort of like it that way.
