I've only skimmed Barker, though nothing I saw really inspired me to read further. Why deeply annoyed?

I don't really know; I've just read two things of his and hated them both (and then found out they were by the same guy). I half hope someone can recommend me something of his so that I don't miss out on something good because I keep stumbling onto the stupid stuff.
