ATTENTION AUSTRALIAN BLOGGERS,

A thrift store is called an opshop
The 'bathroom' is the TOILET.
It's a 'petrol station' not a 'gas station'
And you don't buy your food from a grocer.

Yours sincerely,

Crabby protectoress of Australian colloquial terms.

In addition... a biscuit is NOT a cookie

... [I am however guilty of the 'bathroom' one]

Oh geez yeah I was sure I was missing something...

When a student asks if they can go to the bathroom, I feel like saying "why do you need to do a wee in the toilet?" hehe I don't think I have actually said that yet though... that I can remember.

I would suggest asking them if they need to take a shower? Hahaha. Bathroom always makes me think of amenities - toilet. Also it insinuates that they smell bad. May elicit humorous gigglings from other classmates, at worst, is slightly self-gratifying. Can you tell I'm the daughter of a school teacher?

I use bathroom; but that's because for me it's less crude and so I just prefer it. Heh.

And would it be a gas station for people who have converted their cars to LPG gas? I foresee a time when it's all gas stations! ;)

Well as far as I know, in the US they call petrol gas, I could be wrong though.

Yeah they do. Which is silly; what are they going to do when they actually start using gas? *shakes head*

A friend of mine called it a gas station thoguh because she had LPG gas in her car, and she only went to get that.

TOILET???
Surely as a proud Aussie you mean Dunnie, Crapper or Thunderbox?!!

I'll forgive you your egregious oversight just this once.

Whoops sorry! Haven't heard thunderbox in a long time, I should really help perpetuate that term, it might just die out (horror of horrors!!)
