Carpenter Kids for Dresden Files RPG

Oct 18, 2011 20:31

I'm planning to run Carpenter Kids (OW 121) in a Dresden Files RPG haunted house adventure at the Endgame Minicon, and if that goes well I have other ideas for them too ("Our Sumer Vacation", "Adventures in Mollysaving"), so I'm very interested in feedback on these rough drafts

I've left some aspects and skills (1 Great, 2 Good, 3 Fair, 4 Average) to be filled in by players. Feet in the Water: 20 skill points, 6 base refresh. I've set it about the time of Small Favor, so no spoilers for later books please!

Molly 20, Daniel 18, Matthew 15, Alicia 13, Amanda 11, Hope 9, Harry 7.

The Carpenters are a large, tight-knit family. Dresden is pretty self-centered so he thinks the younger kids mostly stay home under the watchful eye of Dad (Michael Carpenter, former Knight of the Cross, aka "The Fist of God") and Mom (Charity Carpenter, aka "The no-nonsense warm hug of God"). But really, behind the scenes they're off having fabulous adventures! Like the time they took that dare to spend a night in a "haunted" house. This is the story of that time.

The Carpenters live in a neighborhood west of Wrigley Field, in a white two-story colonial house with elegant window dressings and a white picket fence surrounding a tidy front lawn that is always green, even in the blazing Chicago summer. A few jingle bells hang from a string on the front gate, a memento of the time the Carpenter Kids saved Christmas, but that's a story for another time ("A Very Carpenter Christmas").

Their yard has a few shady trees, a lot of well-kept shrubbery, and a birdbath. There's a front porch, and a narrow driveway to the back of the property to a seperate garage, mostly filled with lumber and other construction materials.

The back lawn has a chain link fence, and the large tree centered on the back lawn casts lots of shade in the summer, with a fortresslike tree house 10 feet up with finished walls, an actual window, and guardrails. The tree house even has a porch that overlooks the yard. A big section of the back yard is covered by an addition connected to the back of the house, with a workshop containing tables, costs, and a heater.

Here are the kids from eldest to youngest. All of the boys have dark hair and most of the girls have blonde hair. Molly and Daniel are off doing boring stuff but the other 5 are available to choose from.

Margaret Katherine Amanda "Molly" Carpenter, 20. Gothzilla. Blonde under her haircolor of the week. Causes Mom a lot of headaches. Doesn't live at home any more , rarely visits.

Daniel Carpenter, 18.

Matthew Carpenter, 15. Has his Dad's dark hair and solidly sober expression.

Alicia "Leech" Carpenter, 13. Studious, serious, black-rimmed glasses, loves softball. Dark hair trimmed short. Gawky and skinny.

"Princess" Amanda Carpenter, 11. Calls Dresden "Bill" because they already have a Harry. Pale blonde hair. Favors bright colors, like a pink dress with orange wsweater, bright purple shoes, red coat. A people person.

Hope "Hobbit" Carpenter, 9. Blonde. Fluctuates between extreme shyness and bold, impulsive curiousity.

Harry Carpenter, 7. Dark haired. Saved by Dresden in a graveyard before he was even born, then saved again while a baby, from Lasciel's Denarius.

Matthew Carpenter, 15
