You may have been coded by dress but I always saw your actions as more prominent, and you didn't dress THAT differently from some other people in our gamer-goth subculture. Although yeah, your relationship with J did help isolate you from everyone, not just the queer community.
I don’t know, I was put off by some things said by Smithies that sounded almost separatist- not like men are bad, but like men are irrelevant to our community, even foreign, and that really bothered me. Not everyone, sure, but enough to make feel distanced. And I definitely encountered biphobia, including the 'fuck anything that moves' stereotype. Maybe I didn't give the Smith community enough of a chance, but I stuck to where I felt more welcome- SSFFS, Valley gamer-goths, Tyler, etc.
