My computer has a new background. For those of you who know some of my quirks this is a fairly big deal - my wallpapers are all things that mean a lot to me and also stay parked on my screen for several years. Apropos of nothing much, have you read any Nina Kiriki Hoffman? She does modern-fantasy stories with a generally understated touch - I'd recommend The Silent Strength of Stones even though I don't think it passes the Bechtel Test.

No, I haven't, but I will now look her up. I still have books to read and return to you - my pile grows, which is not a bad thing.

I am also sorry for being rotten about email again, will try to fix that. (Obviously I did not go to the first session of the LARP, but I am considering future ones.)

Yes, read Winter Rose - it's a better book. Just don't associate it with Solstice Wood. IMO, at least.

Val! That one bi character from all of Rawn's oevre, iirc. Man, I remember how validated we felt back then discovering Val and Alin - and for me, at least, that reaction to finding new queer characters has never gone away.

I'll have to look up Wicked Gentlemen, sounds intriguing. I'm kind of getting a C.S. Friedman Coldfire Trilogy vibe from the brief Amazon summary, which would not be bad at all. (Yeah, that doesn't pass the Bechdel either. You learn to live with it ( ... )
