I just got back from seeing the next installment of The Hobbit. Disappointed :( I really like the 1st one and gave it 5 stars but really only 3 for this one and that is being generous. I feel the same way. It's all action and no story. Chock full of bad writing and non-canon storyline.

I don't think at this point there is anything that hasn't changed. I'm not one that the movie has to be true to cannon I actually found the Harry Potter movies pretty boring and stopped watching after the first two even though they followed the book closely yet I like LOTR even though they did change things. This movie just seemed to go overboard on CGI fight effects and the pacing was terrible. Also the changes are just way overboard at this point I wouldn't be surprised if Kili live to marry the elf in the last movie. And I think I will be pissed if Taurial ends up leading the elf army like some of the rumors I hear.

I don't mind when a movie goes off the original plot. What I mind is bad writing, that doesn't fit the original storytelling, filler characters and scenes, and lack of progression. DoS was a waste of time that didn't accomplish anything.

Tolkien has a particular writing style, any serious director should respect that. Because LOTR is a classic that's one of a kind. Yon don't mess with that.

I was actually excited by the trailer. Turns out to be a lot of one liners that fall flat in the movie. I'm not sure at this point I can pick out anything really great about this second movie. Maybe Smaug's voice. I guess I'll wait until the third to see I get totally pissed off or end up enjoying the movie despite its flaws. I'm also praying there isn't any more fricking barrel racing or sappy love scene in the extended cut.
