Did you guys get your babies/kids the hepatitis vaccination?
I finally made olive's 8 week appointment (a few weeks late...) and I know they are going to bring it up. I passed on it in the hospital when she was born because I wasn't really sure of the importance.

So... Thoughts and opinions?

Norah hasn't had it. Hep B is transmitted through body fluids, primarily as an STD, and I'm not really concerned about her contracting it. She doesn't go to childcare, either, so I feel even less compelled for her to get the shot. She does get most of the other routine vax, though (we delayed until 1 year).

i plan on getting olive's routine vax, i just couldn't understand the whole sexually transmitted intravenous drug user disease vaccination for an infant. when i questioned the hep B the nurse practitioner treated me like i was an idiot.

so did you guys not start the shots that normally start at 8 weeks, until norah was 12 months?

Yeah, Norah did not receive any vaccinations until after she was 1 year. I planned to get her first round at her 12m checkup, but I think she was sick at the time so I put it off.

My personal reasoning was that Norah's immune system was so immature and I wanted to wait until she was older and sturdier, as well as the fact that I was staying at home with her and she would not be in daycare, and therefore not exposed to the majority of those viruses. Of course we still went out in public, but she did not have regular contact with strangers or other children so I was not concerned.

She now receives vaccinations at most of her well-baby checkups to "catch up", and her pediatrician is fine with this.

neither one of my boys have the hep b or the chicken pox vaccination. though they do have everything else and Corbin was a year old we began his vacs. Donovan was so spread out over 5 years.
