Yuletide!

Oct 08, 2013 22:45

Dear yuletide writer,

By offering to write for any of these fandoms, you are already awesome. Thanks so much for doing so!

As always: please remember that optional details are optional, and this letter even more so.

But if you'd like more details, here goes.

General likes/dislikes:

I'd love fic of any (mix of) mood(s) and length. (I think my one exception here is Uchouten Kazoku; please see below.) Slice-of-life fic, character studies, vignettes, plotty fic -- it's all cool. I quite enjoy fic in which nothing much actually happens, if that helps.

I'm a gen fan, but pairingfic (slash or het, also awkward triangles/other geometric arrangements) is fine too. However, I'm allergic to pr0n/smut/general sexual hijinks. If you want to write pairingfic, I'd prefer UST rather than passionate declarations of love/lust/happy fluffy romance/angsty doomed romance/etc.

Individual fandoms, with actual requests indented:

Uchouten Kazoku (有頂天家族 | The Eccentric Family)

Characters: Any

I deliberately chose 'Any' for this fandom, and I mean it. I'd love pretty much anything for this series, as long as it captures something of its atmosphere: gentle, warm, by turns whimsical and melancholic.

But here are some ideas, if it helps: pre- or post-series slice-of-life vignettes. Benten backstory. Previous-generation fic, with Souichirou and Mother Shimogamo (and Soun too?). Shimogamo family hijinks. What does it mean to be a disciple of Akadama-sensei's, and what can a tengu teach tanuki? Future-fic -- does Kaisei ever reveal herself to Yasaburou?

Just one request: please, if you're writing backstory fic about Benten and Akadama-sensei, I'd really appreciate if it doesn't get too dark or skeevy. (Obviously it can't be entirely fluffy and happy either, but still.)

I think that mostly covers it. I have no pairing preferences for this series, so anything is fair game. But as mentioned, if you'd like to write about Benten and Akadama-sensei in the earlier stage of their acquaintance, I'd rather it didn't get into dodgy territory. ._.

Gatchaman Crowds

Characters: Any (Nominated characters: Hibiki Joe, Ichinose Hajime, O.D., Tachibana Sugane)

I chose 'Any' for this fandom, but I strictly mean the Yuletide-definition, i.e. 'any of the nominated characters'. (Ensemble fic with the other non-nominated characters would also be good, as long as one or more of the nominated characters play a main role.)

Hajime is pretty fascinating -- I'd love a look at her life before (or after!!) the series. For the others, I'm particularly interested in what it was like to be a Gatchaman before Hajime came along. All those missing numbers, for instance -- are they the numbers of Gatchaman who quit, or perhaps even died? Was Sugane basically raised by Joe??

Just a few points:
- I'm not really looking for pairingfic for this fandom, or at least no feelings stronger than the whole everyone-loves-Hajime canon thing. I do think the Sugane-Joe dynamic is interesting, though, and an exploration of that would be cool.
- Berg Katze wasn't nominated and I'm not a huge fan of his, but a look at post-series Hajime (with Berg Katze involved, necessarily) would be awesome.
- If you'd like to write about Hajime, I'm also intrigued/perplexed by what her relationship with her mother actually is, given that her mother is clearly alive but not really around in the series.
- I find Joe a lot more interesting before he comes to terms with his issues.
- I like Rui as much as the next fan, but I'd prefer if Rui didn't play a large role in the fic. Sorry!

Mushishi

Characters: Kumado

I find Kumado's story (and the nature of his existence) fascinating. Anything that deals with his role as a mushishi of the Minai clan would be lovely. It doesn't have to be entirely serious, though! I loved that little scene at the end of the manga arc where he has tea with Ginko and Tanyuu, for instance, and casual interaction in that vein would be great, too.

I don't have much to say about Kumado, but that's kind of because there's so much to explore. How much did he see of Tanyuu when they were growing up? What, if anything, does he think about how others see him? What does he make of Ginko? What does he do in his spare time?

Chihayafuru

Characters: Mashima Taichi

I requested Taichi because I do want fic with him in it, but it doesn't have to be Taichi-centric fic! Mizusawa-team fic or Chihaya-Arata-Taichi fic would be great, for instance. (I don't mind whether the Chihaya-Arata-Taichi dynamic is taken as romantic or platonic, but I'd really rather not see any two of them paired up separately, sorry.)

If you're happy writing Taichi-focused fic, I'm particularly interested in the weight of his non-karuta obligations.

Despite the direction the manga has taken, I'm not a huge fan of Taichi and Arata angsting over their feelings for Chihaya (though admittedly Taichi does that a lot in canon). I really just want more fic for this series that happens to include Taichi, eheh.

As for Taichi's non-karuta obligations, I meant questions such as: Has he always known that karuta would have to come second to academic/career success? Does he see himself playing karuta after high school? Was it hard, learning to fail? Something with him and Tsutomu having a shared understanding of this issue would be great, too.

(Full disclosure: I've written fic for this series. But you really shouldn't take my fic as any indication of my preferred characterisations for anyone!)

Natsume Yuujinchou

Characters: Matoba Seiji, Natori Shuuichi

Exorcist politics, please! Or just some sort of tension-laden interaction. If you've read chapters 75 and 76 special chapter 15 (just after chapter 70, in volume 17) of the manga, some sort of backstory fic based on that would be amazing! I also find it interesting how Natori's attitude towards youkai is something of a middle ground between Natsume's and Matoba's; fic dealing with that would be cool, too.

I'm not particularly keen on seeing these two seriously paired up, but UST is more than welcome. Please don't pair either of them with Natsume, though.

I don't necessarily see Matoba as sympathetic, but I certainly don't see him as straightforwardly 'evil', either. Similarly, what interests me about Natori is his longing to become a better, kinder person; I'm not too keen on an overly rosy characterisation of him.

Other things I find interesting about the both of them: the weight of their respective family backgrounds; Matoba's obligations and responsibilities to his clan; Natori's insistence on the difference between them.

ref, fandomness
