i've arrived home from my bosnian trip. train rides are long, but easily the best way to travel. you have freedom to move about the train pretty much at your will. most trains in the balkans allow smoking, which isn't so much a plus for me, but a lot of poeple seem to like it. also, since your on the train for so long, you get to talk to many ( Read more... )

For as much as is seems that the US political climate is trying to shut down Amtrak and train travel in the US, the west coast has some of the few working routes. Oregon City even has an Amtrak platform. You can go to and from Portland for about $6. You can barely park in Portland for less than that. Let's not even talk about the gas.

i've gotten too used to typing 'ljubljana' that my fingers are moving too fast when hitting the keys. then again, i'm not known for my impecable typing skillz...
