Hideous Sea creature all the way. Unless its undeath. That seems good too. Especially if it was undeath like in the first pirates, I'd take that over the hideous sea creatures from the second. I loved that movie, especially the part where Jack Sparrows was talking to the witchy woman in the swamp and she asked him for payment and he held up the cage and said, "Undead monkey, top that!" And I knew it was him(I'm not saying who so as to not spoil it for anyone) at the end. Aaarrrrrgggg!
when he showed up at the end, i was all, 'oh, duh, i should have known.' but i didn't predict that he would be there. still, i'm pleased with the twist, whether i was shocked by it or not.
Okay, so I have to admit it, I was seriously unimpressed with the second Pirates movie. Which made me really sad, 'cause I absolutely adored the first one. But we'll see. However, thank you so much for your comment on remakes! I love to get different versions of the same movie and watch them one after the other to compare the similarities and differences, and how much they were influenced by the culture of the era and such! Wonderful stuff. :)
and that's exactly what a remake is: a commentary on the culture in which it came out of. the director/writers may not realize it, but that's what it is. the wonka remake is a pretty good example of that. i think this most recent creation of wonka is more intune with the adhd generation. it's flashier, brighter, the story jumps around a bit more. much more for a person who can't maintain too much focus on one thing for too long.
this most recent pirates had a different feel than the first one. the first one was more intamit, closer to the viewer. this one was much bigger, and took the viewer to many more places that the first one did. it was also more of a humorous film. the scenes felt like they were more designed for laughter than in the first one. that's of course not to say the film isn't serious, i think they managed to balance serious with funny quite well. though, i can understand why some people wouldn't like this one quite as much as the first one. lets hope they tie it all up in the third.
I agree on the remakes...Lots of stories would eb lsot if we didn't remake and retell them...I love the first and the secon and hope the third woun't eb too much of a love triangle thing...
It's interesting how we like oposites in movies. I walked out on dead mans chest. It was too long, the fight scenes too predictable and trite. The big wheel scene with the key went on and on and on. A sight gag is great but we don't need to see it for so long. However, I did enjoy the tribute to H.P. Lovecraft. Davey Jones looked a lot like Cthulhu might look if he were the head vampire dude from underworld. I also enjoyed the gags that made reference to the first movie, which gives this some continuity. Overall though I give this film a c rating.

Well actually on the too long scenes and predictable fights I have to agree. I guess I just like Jack...and the fishy pirates were so cool (specially the old guy that was stuch to the boat)...and it was funny...but it did drag a bit and the love triangle thingy was a bit blah...
