I read the synopsis of the class, and actually I dont think they do mean gaelic. It seems to be Irish, as in the quickly spoken hard to understand unless there's Kelt in your bloodstream, speak in strange analogies English that they speak regularly in Ireland.

Having been to Ireland, I would agree that they mean Irish. I asked for directions, and couldn't understand a damn thing, and I do have Celt in my blood, granted I consider myself more Scotts that Irish, but me mother gives me claim ta tha land o' po-ta-tos. Most of the folks from Ireland actually are easy to understand, but for some reason, a great percentage of county Cork speak some unrecognizable form of English.

I'll agree its a aquired skill to understand some Irishmen, but I don't really think that its enough offa english to warrant an entire new language classification, let alone a class to teach it.

Especially not as an University subject. If I understood Josh correctly the foreign languages offered are Spanish and Irish. Spanish I get. Irish? How about the other big world languages like chinese to french? I mean even Slovene might make more sense....or not...we are tinny...

just to let you know, i looked into the catalouge of all the courses the university offers, and it looks like the three languages they offer are spanish, japanese, and irish. and, if they started offering a slovene course, i'd be sooooo happy.
