Lampwick Background

Oct 13, 2030 23:07

The earliest points of his background are not provided in the game...but Lampwick previously lived in a secret base hidden in the Sharpedo Bluff outside of Treasure Town. He'd always had an interest in legends and history, and the discoveries of exploration teams, but decided he wanted to be an explorer after stumbling across the Relic Fragment one day.

One evening, he tried to work up the courage to join the Wigglytuff guild for exploration teams, but he chickened out. When he went to the beach to watch the Krabby blow bubbles directly after, he found a strange Pokemon washed up onshore. Strangely this Pokemon claimed to be a human, and was clearly confused. While Lampwick was suspicious at first, he soon decided this unfortunate soul was harmless and decided to befriend them.

A Zubat and Koffing ambushed Lampwick and stole his personal treasure, the Relic Fragment, and knowing he couldn't get it back alone, he enlisted the help of the human. Together the pair pursued, confronted, and defeated the two bullies to get it back. Afterwards, Lampwick asked the human to form an exploration team with him, having realized that he felt much more confident with them around and was therefore convinced that they’d be a great combination. When his newfound friend agreed, they joined the guild as an apprenticing team.

The first day's training consisted of retrieving a lost pearl from the Drenched Bluff and returning it to the Spoink who lost it. When it came time for them to be rewarded however, they only got 10% of the cash reward, as 90% was the guild's. This fact discouraged him a little, but the fact that they had succeeded was enough to overule that.

The second day had a rough start as training was to consist of catching a wanted criminal and turning it in for a reward. Since Lampwick was terrified of dangerous Pokemon, a fellow apprentice was appointed to show him and his teammate around and then help them fid an easy target. While down in Treasure Town, they met a pair of brothers called Marill and Azurill while doing some shopping...but then Lampwick's partner started acting oddly.

After the brothers went off with a Drowzee to find their lost item, they began insisting that they needed to go save Azurill from Drowzee because they just had a vision where the older Pokemon was threatening him. While he was concerned by this, Lampwick couldn't believe Drowzee was a threat to those children because he'd seemed genuinely nice.

However, moments after they arrived back at the guild, there was a wanted poster for Drowzee on the Outlaw Board. Worried for Azurill's safety they rushed to Mt. Bristle with Marill's help, and found Drowzee. Lampwick blew their chance and arresting him without a fight when he let his fear show, but they were able to defeat him and save Azurill. It was about then that Lampwick began to suspect that there was something more unique about his new friend than the fact they'd been a human.

A few days later, the guild received the disconcerting news that the Time Gear in Treeshroud Forest had been stolen, and as a result time in that area had stopped altogether. While this was alarming to say the least, all they could do was remain alert and continue the guild work. That same day, Lampwick and his partner were finally sent on their first official exploration. Before they left however, Chimecho, another apprentice, informed them that they could also recruit other Pokemon into their team now.

While exploring an area with a waterfall they were supposed to investigate, Lampwick's partner experienced another vision; a lone Pokemon leaping through the waterfall and into a cave behind it. Putting his faith in his friend, Lampwick agreed to leaping through the waterfall and they entered Waterfall Cave and set about exploring it. Far in the back, they discovered a large gem and decided to take it back to the guild. Neither of them could pull it out though and Lampwick triggered a trap when he decided to try pushing it instead. This resulted i them being swept away to a distant hotspring.

While reporting this to Chatot, Lampwick's partner brought up the possibility og Guildmaster Wigglytuff having already been to the cave. Chatot found it hard to believe the Guildmaster would send them to a place he’d already explored and went to check. It turned out to be true, meaning that their team got no credit for exploring the cave...but that same night, Lampwick and his partner were informed that they had a chance to be considered for an upcoming expedition.

The next day the pair run into Zubat and Koffing, who it turns out are also an exploration team. After a failed attempt to talk Lampwick into giving up on exploration, the bullies scoffed at the two of them saying that training amounts to nothing without talent, and that they had only beaten them because their chief wasn’t there. Their team leader, Skuntank, appeared and knocked Lampwick's partner out with an awful stench, simply because he was in the way. When faced with the threat of the same happening to him, Lampwick backed down without a fight, a fact which shamed him greatly.

A couple days later, Team Skull moved into the guild under the guise of aiding in the expedition. They spoke in friendlier more proper voices to fool Wigglytuff and Chatot, but the next day the food storage had been greatly depleted. Lampwick’s team was sent to Apple Woods to gather Perfect Apples for the Guildmaster since the entire stock of those had been cleaned out. There they encounter Team Skull, who had eaten most of the Perfect Apples off of the tree while waiting for them. Skuntank pretended to want to help in their assignment…even going as far as to knock down some apples for them, but Lampwick and his partner weren’t fooled in the slightest. They decided to battle Team Skull, but Skuntank and Koffing knocked them out with a noxious gas, and Team Skull took the apples and left.

When Lampwick and his partner returned to the guild, Chatot refused to listen to the explanation of their failure and deprived them of dinner, making them stand in the dining room and watch everyone else eat. He also made them go with him to report to Wigglytuff, who didn’t mind their failure because he doesn’t know the apples are all gone. Surprisingly, at the news that there are no Perfect Apples for him at, the Guildmaster began to cry, which caused the whole building to shake with the force of his Hyper Voice attack.. Team Skull entered and offered him a single Perfect Apple, supposedly as thanks for letting them stay at the guild, effectively making Lampwick’s team look entirely incompetent.

The next day, Chatot told them that the Guildmaster likely wouldn’t bother considering them for the exploration after the failed mission. Several of the other apprentices then took them aside, gave them a couple of apples since they still hadn’t eaten, and encouraged them to not give up…because they all want to go with them on the expedition. After several more days, the day came when the candidates were named and surprisingly, Wigglytuff decided to include the entire guild in the expedition.

Lampwick and his partner were assigned to head for Foggy Forest with Bidoof, another apprentice. They took a route that passed through the Craggy Coast and Mt. Horn, being the last group to arrive two days later.

Once there, the guild plus Team Skull split up to find Fogbound Lake, an uncharted lake said to have a mysterious treasure. Although they were nearly stopped by Team Skull, Lampwick and his partner made it to Fogbound Lake. Just before they did however, his partner confided that he thought this was where he might have lost his memory. This turned out to be false, but they did discover a Time Gear. Unfortunately this meant that the guild not only left empty-handed, but they had to pretend they hadn't found anything to protect the Time Gear.

Shortly after returning to Treasure Town, another Time Gear was reported stolen and the guild was visited by a famous explorer called Dusknoir. Around that same time, Marill and Azurill sought out Lampwick and his partner because their lost item had been taken hostage in a place they couldn't go. When they went to get it, Lampwick and his partner were attacked by the Luxio Tribe for tresspassing, but saved by Dusknoir who'd heard about where they were going. They found out Team Skull was behind the trap, but got the item back for Marill and Azurill. Back in town, the pair asked Dusknoir for advice on the former human's bizarre situation. Dusknoir didn't have answers but offered to help in any way possible.

The Time Gear thief was finally identified, after stealing the Fogbound Lake Time Gear, as Grovyle. Pooling their resources, Chatot and Dusknoir set about trying to locate the remaining Time Gears to catch Grovyle. Lampwick and his partner were sent to check out the Northen Desert. At the center was the Quicksand Desert. Following his partner's insticts, they leapt into a quicksand pit and found a cave underneath it. They found an underground lake and a Time Gear, but were unable to protect it from Grovyle.

While exploring Crystal Cave, they arrived at Crystal Lake as Grovyle was about to finish off the Time Gear's guardian, who'd covered the lake in a sheet of crystal. They were no match for the thief though and Lampwick was nearly killed when he got injured badly enough that he couldn't speak or move. usknoir appeared and Grovyle fled.

When Lampwick came to, he and his partner were safe in their room. Dusknoir resurfaced a couple days later and explained that he'd come from the future to stop Grovyle from destroying time. It took a few more days, but he succeeded. When it was time to say farewell however, he dragged Lampwick and hus partner and dragged them to the future with him. There they were tied to clumns along with Grovyle to be executed by a group of Sableye using Fury Swipes.
