nate today i went outside and everything was so cold and stiff, but there was still life in it if i looked for it. i went to the garden, where only a few months ago there were beautiful beans and tomatoes, and it was nothing but a pit of ash that looked like it was breathing. there was a mound of ashes in the center of the garden, and i could see it rising and falling with every exhale, because that was the chest. i looked down, and on the ground there was, perfectly preserved, a grape tomato. i picked it up and put it in the center of the dead, breathing chest. it had a bright red tomato heart, and everything was alive. i played the corpse a song on my flute, and felt it rise again. nate, it was so beautiful. the dogs were barking at me, and quietly i said "shhhh....it's okay", and they realized we were friends, and that the only reason they resented or barked or feared me was because there was a fence between us. a fence that man constructed in his free time because he didn't have anything better to do than create boundaries, and
