Summary: Tae eun and Darae practice their kiss for their Dr. Feelgood stage.
Note(s): I hope your year is starting off well!

They hadn’t been able to stop laughing once their choreographer proposed it, but alone in the practice room, there was something embarrassing about it. It was odd, because neither of them were the gagmakers, so they had no reason to be laughing at each other. Darae gave it an honest attempt and leaned in, but she overshot and Tae eun pushed her away with a laugh. Darae puckered her lips.

“Come on,” she said teasingly. “What are you, afraid?”

“Afraid of your breath is what!”

“Yah!” Darae aimed a kick at her thigh. The choreographer rapped on the other side of the door; she had given them fifteen minutes of privacy to practice. They shot twin glares at the door. Darae sighed and stepped back to face the mirror. “Let’s run through it again.”

An almost-kiss between two women was not the most scandalous part of the performance, but Tae eun couldn’t help but feeling nervous. Not that she looked it-she knew she never looked it. They had never completely managed to nail it down in practice, but when the time came, Tae eun found she had been so distracted by everything that had come before it-spreading her thighs, tossing her hair, that when the time came, it was almost instinct for her to lean in and brush her lips against Darae.

She would have paused and leaned in, but the beat of the music pulled her away into her next move. That was what they had agreed on beforehand: that no matter what happened, they would keep going, but now Tae eun almost regretted it. The moment burned through her as she twisted away and thrust her hips up, dragging her hands over her body.

After their stage, they were too busy wiping the sweat away from their outfits and gulping down water, bloating be damned, but when Tae eun wiped her lips and looked up, she caught Darae staring at her. Tae eun puckered up her lips, and Darae flinched, nearly spilling her water, but her nervous laugh was what made Tae eun blush.

By the end of their first week of promotions, they had a lot more to worry about instead of kissing-Isak took the need to re-choreograph their dance as a personal affront. It was to be expected, of course, but there was more than a tinge of disappointment in their crazy, overworked laughter that floated around the dorms. Tae eun and Darae took to exaggerating their kiss in front of the rest, just to stave off the worry and stress. And it worked, too, until the one time their lips actually touched.

They hadn’t meant to, and Darae jerked away almost immediately, as if she’d been burned. Tae eun turned around, and nobody was laughing. Darae looked away, and Saem pulled out a pack of cards, rescuing them from their embarrassment.

They didn’t talk about it. They didn’t talk about a lot of things-like the way it was natural for them to cuddle up in the car together, or how they were the only two who couldn’t do imitations or gags, or how they didn’t even need to talk when they were cuddling with the dogs they visited at the pet cafe.

Promotions for Dr. Feelgood were done and over with, and the dorm felt a little emptier now that they had enough time to keep to themselves. And through it all, Tae eun and Darae still chose to hang out together when they didn’t have to, so wasn’t that something?

Tae eun had every reason to forget about the kiss and move on. She didn’t have to wait until they were getting ready to go shopping, touch Darae on the shoulder and meet her smile with a brush of lips, but she did. Darae blinked but her eyes weren’t wide and the line of her body was completely relaxed.

“What was that for?” she asked. Tae eun leaned in and kissed her again, and when she felt Darae leaning in she pulled away.

“Just practice,” she said, and Darae laughed, hooking their arms together. Another kiss, this one on the cheek, and they were out the door.
