But gods do I miss him! I miss who he was, what he could have been... and it rips at me that maybe I'm a reason he isn't where he COULD be.

You aren't fixating. You're healing. It takes time and it happens in spurts. You'll go months thinking everything is fine and then spend a few days in the middle of the storm again like it was all just yesterday. It's okay. It gets steadily better. Soon you'll come to a day where you realize it is getting better -- that it isn't over yet, but it is actually getting better, just like in early spring there comes a day where you realize the nights really are getting shorter.
