Wall? Well?

This is something I read about in the 60's that people like Speedy Babbs did in the 20's, but I didn't think it existed anywhere anymore. Clearly some enterprising promoter has seen fit to bring it back... It's a very amateur job of filming, but an oddity from the past none-the-less.

What I want to know is, what is that pile-o-stuff in the middle of the bottom of the pit? The remains of the last guys who tried it, not so successfully?

I kinda wondered about that myself. Some of the stuff I used to read about had stories of pretty horrific accidents - like when the paraffin wick went out on your hot-tube ignition...

But I imagine it's just stuff the spectators have dropped. I'm pretty sure traction at the transition is rather critical, and sweeping the junk into the middle keeps it away from that edge.
