"You knew you shouldn't have splurged on that pair of shoes! You knew we were already running low on cash yet you--" Jongin lectures, running a hand through his hair in frustration.
Not far down away from him, Sehun sits down on their couch, picking at the already frayed ends of their couch's cushion. The words it's your fault hang heavily in between them, frequently implied but never explicitly stated whenever they argue. In the background, if the both of them listen closely enough, there's the sound of their tap leaking, as if reminding them of their poor circumstances and their inability to afford better living quarters.
Jongin casts a glance at Sehun's face and immediately wishes that he hadn't, because the sight of his boyfriend looking all guilty, a contrast from the usual bright smiles he'd give Jongin, has him wanting to apologise immediately, even if it wasn't exactly his fault in the first place. It was more of his fault for pointing it out, for taking out the anger that had been steadily building up because of his work on Sehun. They usually close an eye on each other's occasional spending on their hobbies or interests because they know that it makes the other happy. It reminds them that even though they are barely able to make ends meet, they are still happy.
Jongin takes a few steps across their small living room, his arms outstretched to bring Sehun into his arms. Instead, he's met with hands pushing him away firmly before Sehun silently walks into their shared room, closing the door before Jongin could say anything else. Jongin sighs, looking at the couch that was now to be his bed for the night. Guess it means another night of battling the cold, this time by himself.
Jongin wakes up when the sun's rays get too bright for him, shining directly onto his face because they never saw the need for curtains. What he doesn't expect is to find an armful of Sehun and their blanket draped over them, their legs tangled together in what could be called a mess of human limbs before Jongin pulled his arms away to stretch out the kinks in his back.
When he rubs sleep out of his eyes, he's once again surprised to feel a piece of paper stuck to his forehead. Confused, he plucks what seems to be a post-it off his forehead, narrowing his eyes into a squint as he tries to read what was written on it.
He fails to hold back a chuckle when he finds the words BIG FAT MEANIE scribbled onto yellow paper in Sehun's usual scrawl, accompanied by what he thinks is a fairly ugly drawing of him. Beside that drawing, there's a sad face, and Jongin presumes that it's Sehun. There's another piece stuck behind it and Jongin immediately smiles when he sees But I still love you, and if he really squints, in smaller writing, I'm sorry is written at the corner. Jongin's hand finds itself in Sehun's hair as he threads his fingers through brown locks, Sehun never expresses his apologies verbally.
Jongin pastes the post-its onto the nearest surface he sees and wraps his arms around Sehun's sleeping form, settling for pressing a kiss into the crown of Sehun's head as a temporary apology. He closes his eyes and falls asleep again, this time feeling warmer not only physically.
Apologies can come later.
