Well, I went to see Dogville this evening. It was quite a complex film, I have to say. In fact, I have three opinions of it:
- Best comedy I've seen all year
- Best critique of the shortcomings of liberal intelligentsia I've seen all year
- Best argument for a violent socialist uprising in this country I've seen all year
In other words: it's everything that protesters hoped for and failed to accomplish in NYC during the Republican National Convention.
Alas noone really goes to the movies anymore.
In further news, someone should be on hand near Lars Von Trier all the time to slap him silly upside the head every time he wants to use a handheld camera while shooting a feature-length movie. I swear, I've had motion sickeness at every single one of his films I've seen. I know it's like his thing, man, but still. Knock it off. What's good for a 15 minute short in film school is not good for a movie that goes on for hours. Just get a fucking dolly already.
