“Noona, what are you waiting for? Open the door,” Donghae whispered a few seconds after the doorbell had rung. Now there clearly wasn't anyone they were expecting standing outside the door. Donghae pushed Bohyo lightly from behind, indicating that she should be the one to open it for whoever stranger was waiting.

Sungyeon's nails were digging into the backside of Hyukjae's hand, the one she had been shaking just one minute before. The doorbell had frightened her, again, to say the least. Her eyes, wide and scared, stared into Hyukjae's, and the latter tried to hold back the urge to tell her to let go of his hand, which started to feel numb. Sungah tapped on her unnie's shoulder, and Sungyeon's head whipped to look at the younger.

“Unnie, I think Hyukjae oppa might start crying soon.”

Sungyeon realized what she was doing and pulled her hand back quickly to back away from them, or maybe the door, slowly. Bohyo was heading out to the foyer, and maybe they all acted childish like that, being tense and all, since it was not likely to be anyone dangerous outside the door.

Bohyo's muffled voice sounded polite when she greeted the strangers, and her expression when she came back into the room again was serene. Two policemen were following her, both of them tall and handsome, and both of them bowing when they had stopped in the middle of the room. They were greeted back in the same polite manner.

“We are here to speak to Lee Sungyeon-ssi,” one of the spoke out, “please come forward.”

Sungyeon hesitated, she tried to tell herself that it should be fine, they were men of authority, there to protect them all. She took one deep breath and stepped forward.

“That's me,” her voice sounded tiny.

“Ah,” one of them spoke, the other went back to stand by the door, “you know why we are here, I suppose. Would you like to answer some questions?”

She nodded her head, and showed him to the table in the kitchen. While he sat down on one side, she made Bohyo sit in between them, clutching the older's hand in a tight grip. Sungah was leaning against the sink, and Hyukjae kept Donghae company in the connected living room where he paced back and forth.

“I have spoken to the nurses and doctors that treated you at Jungang General Hospital, so I will not ask you about anything physical, okay?” the police officer said, and tried to make eye contact with her. She nodded slowly. “I am going to ask you about the night, what you remember, mostly what he looked like, and other things relevant. Can you tell me where you met him?”

“A-at the bar down the s-street, it's a few blocks to walk,” she mumbled, clearly uncomfortable in her own skin. “I a-approached him f-first...”

“Donghae-ssi and I saw him too, if only for a second. He seemed perfectly normal,” Bohyo cut in, when it was obvious that Sungyeon started to blame herself all of a sudden. Donghae stopped pacing for a second when he heard his name being mentioned, and it was like a dark cloud welled over him. The policeman nodded.

“Continue, Sungyeon-ssi, how did he act?”

Sungyeon closed here eyes and tried to remember, body tensing when doing that. It wasn't pleasant seeing his blurry face again, and how could he ever have looked so charming, when he really was so sick.

“He was calm, collected, normal, said his name was.. Eunj-ae, or maybe Eunjoon, I'm sorry, I can't remember.” Her eyes shot open.

“Don't worry, just keep going.” Sungyeon closed her eyes again, slowly.

“H-he said that he worked at a factory nearby, but not much more about himself, at all.”

“Where did you go?”

“To the park, there were no people around, none at all. He kept looking around, I remember that now,” her voice started shaking, as if tears were threatening to fall, but they didn't. “He asked me something, I think, and while I answered, he stopped-”

She was holding on to Bohyo's hand for dear life at that moment, and Sungah was holding onto Sungyeon's shoulder as support. Bohyo could see Donghae hiding his face with his own hands, still standing in the middle of the room with Hyukjae beside him.

“H-he- he called m-, h-he said that I was a... whore, a-and then h-he, h-he-”

“Alright, alright, we don't have to go any further about that, just relax please.” Sungyeon's breathing was uneven, the images she remembered were to vivid and clear for her liking, and she was thankful when he asked her to stop.

Donghae, on the other hand, was livid. He had gone back to pacing back and forth in the room, pulling his hair out all the while. Hyukjae was unsure what to do. He wasn't really sure he had ever witnessed Donghae acting like that, so worked up over something. Donghae could have a hot temper at times, but not bad enough to kill, which it seemed like now.

“Donghae-yah, slow down, I have to talk to you.”

“What?! What could possibly be important to talk about now?” Donghae hissed, he didn't have the intention of interrupting the questioning.

“Can we go somewhere else? I don't want to disturb them.”

Donghae looked around, to the policeman at the door to the kitchen table, where Sungyeon were trying to describe the man as accurate as she could manage. He sighed and nodded his head toward the door to the right of them. Hyukjae got the indication and headed over there, Donghae following after him. When Donghae closed the door behind him, he turned to face Hyukjae.

“What is it?”

“You have to go ba-”

“Hell I am,” Donghae spat, even though he didn't want to be rude to Hyukjae.

“Donghae, you've already stayed one day too much of the time you had for vacation. You were supposed to be back yesterday. They're furious at the company, and you won't pick up when they call. Do you know how much I had to beg to be the one to come and get you?” Hyukjae's voice became louder for every sentence he spoke. He felt like he was scolding his little brother, and not his friend.

“So what are you going to do? Drag me out of here like I'm a little kid? Threaten with taking away my allowance?! I will not leave this place, there is no way in hell!”

“Stop being so selfish!”

“Selfish?! How on earth am I selfish in this? I am sticking up for a friend, Hyukjae, a friend. Out of all the people I thought that you would understand that.”

“You're dragging more people under than just me because of this, don't you know that? We have a job to do, and the company can understand some personal matters, but when you're not even blood-related, they don't have much sympathy for it. And there isn't much you can d-”

“I need to help her!” Donghae roared, eyes red from tears that had been on their way of falling the whole time, and which finally were doing just that. He sunk down on the floor slowly, completely drained on every emotion, and just cried, something he had wanted to do the past two days.

Once again, Hyukjae found himself in an odd situation, where he was not entirely sure of what to do. They were fighting just seconds ago, but Donghae clearly had more personal issues than he showed to the girls, or maybe only Sungyeon. He came to his senses quickly and sunk down to Donghae's level. It was interesting how Donghae was showing that strong façade for everyone else, when he really was in need of some comfort himself. When Hyukjae wrapped an arm around Donghae's shoulder, he felt the younger grasp his t-shirt desperately.

“W-when dad died, I couldn't do anything, I was stuck in Seoul, I wasn't there for him,” Donghae managed to stutter out between sobs, “this time I can do something, don't you get it?”

Hyukjae was quiet, he couldn't get the other a piece of his mind at that moment. He agreed with Donghae to a certain point, but not entirely. Donghae had duties, and some things were to the authorities to take care of. This was one of those things.

“What the hell are you doing in here?”

Hyukjae was startled when he heard Sungah's voice coming from the open crack in the door. Donghae didn't even react. The girl opened the door a little more to stick her head in, and witness the scene on the floor.

“Oppa, are you alright?”

“Oppa is fine,” Donghae said, voice a little steadier, while he tried to wipe away as many tears, and as much snot as he could with his sleeve.

“Unnie will see straight through you, y'know,” Sungah said.

“Which of them?”

“Both. The policemen left a while ago, luckily before you two had started screaming too loud. Come out whenever you're done,” and she shut the door again for them to be alone.

“Look, Hae, I know that you have a bad conscience for what happened, and that it's your 'second chance', but don't you think that Sungyeon would feel bad if she knew what you're risking for staying here?”

Donghae was quiet.

“You make your own decisions, I know, but I don't want to see your ass getting sued because of this, please.”

It was the only reasonable thing to do, of course Donghae knew that. He just hated the fact of leaving Sungyeon in her vulnerable state, even though he was pretty sure that Bohyo could protect her from almost anything. He made a quick decision, the most responsible one.

“Alright,” he said and tried to stand up on shaky legs, “I just have to break it down to her gently.”

A/N: I am soooooo tired, but I feel like I have to stay up until bella sends me the first part of the sequel to neighbours...
and I am still living in my little OC-world. I wish I had inspiration to write something else though...
