“I will now tell you... a story.”

The room was dark, only lit up by four small candles, which were held by four men, sitting gathered around a tiny table on the floor. The oldest, though from his looks, that was hard to tell, simply snickered. The youngest raised his eyebrows. The brunette sitting next to said storyteller looked utterly excited though.

“Hyung, I stopped believing in fairytales when I was eight,” Kyuhyun stated, rolling his eyes.

“I'm not talking about fairytales, you rascal,” Hyukjae snapped, throwing a loose slap at Kyuhyun's head, the younger dodging it by an inch, “what you're about to hear is the real deal, a story passed on for only two or three generations.”

“And you think that you'll be able to keep my attention on this so called real deal,” Heechul laughed, “I will love to see you try.”

“Don't listen to them, Hyukjae. Hyung, tell the story, what is it about?” Donghae defended, and gripped Hyukjae's arm in anticipation. Hyukjae smiled a little, though brushed Donghae's hand off of his arm. He sat himself upright, and placed his own candle on the table in the middle. Thereafter he crossed his legs, and took a deep breath, trying to get the right atmosphere to fill the room.

“It is about... paranormal activities.”

Donghae's eyes grew wider, his hand subconsciously finding its place on Heechul's knee.

“Are you talking a-abou-, about ghosts?”

“You could call it that,” Hyukjae said and nodded.

”Ghosts are as real as aliens,” Kyuhyun said mockingly, trying to use his candle as some sort of weapon against the fly that kept circling around his head.

Donghae's eyes snapped from Hyukjae's face and landed on the magnae, not really sure what to think. ”What's that supposed to mean?”

”Just saying what everyone is thinking,” he answered thoughtlessly, and immediately wished that he could take it all back, after one look upon his hyung's hurt expression. Everyone seemed to sense the immense shame the youngest was feeling. Finally a small “..sorry” was heard. Hyukjae cleared his throat.

“Anyway, I don't really know where to begi-”

“How about from the start,” Heechul said with a grin, clearly not taking the whole thing with paranormal activities seriously. Hyukjae rolled his head to the side and eyed his hyung. Then he sighed and figured it was time.

“So, anyway, long time ago there was this woman,” he caught one pair of eyes after another, “who was psychic.”

There was a moment of silence. Until Kyuhyun decided to open his mouth.

“Yeaaah, are we talking about the mental kind of the one who can talk to spirits?”

Hyukjae sighed yet again, this had not started the way he had planned. It was only supposed to be a dramatic pause.

“The spirit kind.”

Both Donghae and Heechul nodded in understanding at that.

“She could predict all kinds of stuff as well. She even predicted the day she died, and told everyone not to make it such a gloomy day. She had this “angel”, that came to her in her dreams, and told her about what was going to happen.” He seemed to have caught everyone's attention, even though Heechul was a little bit more focused on getting a straws of his hair on the right place.

“This was overseas, and there were bad things going on in the country. The woman had a sister, who in her turn had a husband, who was murdered by the government.” Hyukjae could hear a gasp coming from Donghae. “The woman lived apart from her sister, in another country even, and they rarely met. This one night, the woman had a dream. The angel came to her and she got the feeling that something really bad would happen to her sister if she stayed at the same location where the husband had been murdered.

She sent messages to her sister, desperately telling her to leave the country, to come and live with her. But either the messages got lost, or her sister just refused to do as she was told. Finally, she decided to do something about it herself.”

“What did she do?” Donghae asked, knees pressed to his chest and arms keeping them there.

“She took her own son, who was seven or so, and traveled to her sister, to persuade the younger to follow her back.”

Hyukjae noted that even Heechul had taken the initiative of leaning forward a little bit, eyes fixed on Hyukjae. Kyuhyun remained unbothered.

“She was greeted by her sister, and her six-year-old daughter, and they spend the whole day wandering around, taking some pictures, enjoying life a little before they would take off. The children were playing by the beach, while the women we're chatting a bit further away.

The children...”

He made yet another dramatic pause.

“...found a mine in the sand. It looked really old, like it had been there for ages. The children played around it, when suddenly, BOOM!” Kyuhyun twitched a little, Heechul lost his breathing from the surprise, and Donghae instinctively flew to Heechul's side and tried to hide himself. Hyukjae snickered, pleased with the reactions.

“W-what happened?” Donghae stuttered, fearful of what he possibly was about to hear.

“The boy made it with scratches, but the girl died. That poor girl.”

“So-, so what did they do?” Heechul asked.

“The woman figured that this was what she had predicted, this was the bad thing that was supposed to happen. The sister followed her back, since there was nothing for her left.”

“This is the whole story?” Kyuhyun asked. There was still no sign of amazement on his face, nothing compared to Heechul at least. Donghae was just gaping, eyes wide.

“Of course not, silly,” Hyukjae replied, patting the magnae on the shoulder. “Do you remember the photos they took?” He got three nodding heads as answers.

“The photos was sent in to develop, and after a while the woman went to get the final results back. But when there, she was told that some of the pictures were blurry, that there was something wrong with the development, the pictures better be tossed. But stubborn as she was, she demanded to see the photos at least, to decide herself what was worth keeping.

When laying an eye on one of the pictures, she was shocked.”

“What? What did she see, Hyukjae?” Donghae asked, a little frantically.

“There she was, with her sister, and their children in front of them. But there was a fifth figure, standing next to them. It was a man. She somehow knew that it was the angel that kept coming to her in her dreams, but she also recognized him from somewhere else.”

“F-from where, hyung?” Hyukjae was surprised to hear Kyuhyun ask, now looking a little more into the whole story.

“It was their brother,” he paused, “who had died 20 years earlier.”

Donghae let out a shaky breath. Heechul blinked a few times after realizing that the story had come to an end. Kyuhyun's mouth hung open, no words leaving it, which was pretty astonishing.

Hyukjae was definitely content.

“Alright, Hyukjae-ah, that was a pretty good story, I give you that one,” Heechul said.

“B-but-, but the ghost was only there to warn them, r-right? I-it wasn't an evil ghost, right?” Donghae stuttered, still sitting a little too tense, and really close to Heechul.

“Stop acting like a little frightened girl, hyung,” Kyuhyun laughed, clearly out of his shock already. He turned to Hyukjae, “and besides, how can you know that this story is true?”

“Oh, my source is pretty reliable, and I supposed you all have to trust me on that one. Have I ever give you reason not to trust me?”

“Well, there was tha-,

“You actually di-,” Kyuhyun and Heechul ranted out loud, and both of their speeches got lost in the other's.

“Can we not do this now?” Hyukjae stopped them both. “It was a pretty good story, wasn't it?”

Heechul and Kyuhyun both nodded their heads, and Hyukjae smiled in victory. Donghae still just looked scared, eyes flickering behind him every once in a while.

“The light's are burning down. Should we be heading back down?” Kyuhyun asked Hyukjae, and after a gaze at the clock, he realized that it was way past bedtime. He nodded in response.

The oldest helped Kyuhyun to stand up on his feet, and they started chatting loudly while walking out of the room with their candles. Hyukjae went to follow their lead and figured Donghae would do the same. After one or two steps, he felt a hand frantically gripping his arm.

“Yah! Are you leaving me here all alone?”

“Geez, Donghae, relax, I thought you were coming along,” he tried to calm Donghae down, and instantly became worried when he saw Donghae's watery eyes, “are you alright?”

“It's just that... Heechul will lock himself into his room, and Shindong is out with Nari, and Teukie-hyung won't be home until later and...,” he fiddled with the candle in his hands, “... I just don't want to sleep alone.”

After a second of thought, Hyukjae draped an arm of comfort around Donghae's shoulder, and led him out of the room, toward the elevators.

“It's alright, you can sleep in my bed tonight.”
