I wanted the scorpion though! I wanted to keep it as a pet. Who cares if it was about 2 times larger than a normal one, and it was trying to kill me. _._;;;

Although the symbol is really Jungian (and a tad Adlerian), the idea of a scorpion really depends on the individual and how they respond to and process the image (? motif? abstract concept? archetype! yeah that's it). If I was interpretating you, which I tend to do to people without realizing it, I would say that you're afraid of the tail end of events that are about to come from achievements you've made in your personal progressions. (The tail is the venomous piece of the scorpion). The fact that it was behind you means that the problem doesn't go away when you leave it alone. The themes of death and rebirth aren't really relevent, though, because these are only illusions that you're portraying. You don't really want to die, but the idea of it dances in your head, almost like an impending obsession (the chasing scorpion). The fact that someone else fixed your problem by destroying the creature and sending it to drown is also important because you still haven't attained enough strength to confront the symbolic conflict.
