uhm, they did ;) around the 70's. chaos theory is prevalent in explaining weather, turbulence and pretty much any dynamic system.

i can get into the dynamics of air pressure to explain the wind or how the monkey is being taunted by aliens from alpha centauri sending Dance messages directly to his brain, if you'd really like :D
